Is Vernon Davis still a stud TE? (1 Viewer)

I look at Alex Smith and wonder how Vernon Davis had such a good season last year. Is he still a stud TE (Top 5) or does he fall this year? I don't like starting him when I have Gronkowski on the bench.

Alex Smith did not look bad in the last game at all. The playcalling was very conservative, but I see no reason to think Smith is going to regress to the point where it affects Davis.

If anything, Davis screwed himself over in the last game, alligator arming a good, deep pass from Smith.

He has been the #2 TE for the past 2 years with a combination of Smith and other crappy QBs, not sure why I would expect that to be radically different this year.

900+ yards both years with Smith, with 7 TDs in the "down" year and 13 in the breakout season. Something tells me he'll be fine.

Last week worried me a bit too, but I think he'll be OK. I think Smith will be allowed to do more as the season moves along.

I have Davis in a league where TE/WRs are the same. I also have Gronk & Hernandez, and would start either of them over Davis for this week at least.

this week vs Dallas, Davis is going to have a monster one.

Put him in.

Dallas is depleted worse than the o-zone layer

Obviously situation is a factor.

But IMO Vernon Davis is the best TE in the NFL period. Hes been dealing with terrible QBs his entire career.

I wouldnt start him over TEs who are in a better situation (the only ones this applies to imo is the top 4 TEs not counting Davis and Gronk/Hernandez, exclude Clark for as long as Peyton is out of commission) I would start him over everyone else.

Interesting. I'm starting Pettigrew vs. KC instead of Davis. While Dallas' secondary may be porous, their front seven is dominant and I bet they overwhelm the Niner's o-line and rattle and easily-rattled Alex Smith.

He will be fine, he is their only playmaking pass catching option. Braylon and Crabs aint nuthin special.

LOL, some dude cut him in my league. The owner is actually a pretty good one, guess he was just fed up with him...after the 1 game panic.

The lockout has made people forget how to do fantasy I guess. lol

Alex Smith played TE and QB for a few years. It was tiring flying from game to game on the concorde and continuing this charade so he decided to switch to just playing the QB role. He made a bad decision and QBs should really never play TE. Once the niners point this out to him and he goes to backing up Davis, then their team will improve. Watching him throw INTs and bad passes every week has simply grown old.
