It's Christmas in July - Draft Dominator software available for your desktop (2 Viewers)

So I added the 8 keepers for my team (4 wr's, 1 QB, 1 RB, 1 LB and 1 DB) totalling $75. With a $300 auction budget...16 team league we start 1 QB, 2 WR, 2 RB/WR, 1 RB/WR/TE, 1 TE, 1 K, 2 DL, 2 LB, 2 DB, 1 Flex IDP, 11 bench...

The WR values went nuts after entering those 8 keepers....were talking from the mid $80's for the top WR's to $150+....this seems quite a bit off and unrealistic...any thoughts on what i can do to make the auction values more realistic?

Thanks
well you could use positional adjustments to move them down under the wrench icon.

that's a really interesting league though. does everyone have 8 keepers? the more keepers you have, the higher the top players will be. lots of keepers is not too dissimilar from increasing a total budget in terms of effect. And that is a super-heavy WR league - you could start 5 WRs in a week but only 3 RB. If it's PPR too I can see how WRs could be super high. Add in the 80 or so keepers and I could see half your budget on a top guy. Let me phrase that another way... halfway through a $200 auction everyone's drafted half a roster each and you have $100 left. But then Antonio Brown comes up for auction. You'd happily pay $50+.

I haven't put in all the teams keepers yet as the keeper deadline isn't until mid August....however, I would hope once all the keepers are put in the value's would go down no?  Last year on average teams had roughly about $200 of their $300 left once keepers were put on rosters....given it is a 26 man roster that $200 goes towards 18 players assuming everyone keeps 8.  Last season and even prior seasons, no player went for more then $80 with this format.  That is because defensive player scoring is high enough to give them value (LB's go for around $20+ on average, DL go for around $10+ on average and DB's go for $15+ on average).

Using your example above the current values would mean are you willing to pay $100 for AB with your $100 left since it is currently showing AB for $162 with a $300 auction cap...

Also, the reason for the multiple flexes in this league is because with 16 teams they wanted to give teams multiple different lineups that would be legal since there will be 80 starting WR/RB's every single week.

So I just got this year's app, which I always love. My draft isn't until the Tuesday before the season starts, but I like to use the Dominator for mocks between now and then. First mock, picking 13 of 14, redraft, serpentine...the first two rounds were pretty normal. However, in the 3rd, QBs went with 10 straight picks and 11 of 13 in the round. Never seen this out of the app before. And we only give 3 points for TDs passes, so definitely weird to see Eli, Brady, Rivers, etc. go so high. Just thought I'd share. It's obviously early and I'm sure the kinks will get worked out. If I possibly have some settings way off, please let me know. Thanks!

you're using an old version (of the new app!) - download the latest from the same page. What I hope you guys will understand is I can't go round and round in circles answering the same questions - most of these are already answered in this thread.

But the one that isn't is what happens to your LeVeon Bell modification. It's saved as a multiplier to our numbers. So you want to clear that once we've updated him (I think we might have done already)

Thanks, I did read through the thread to get the answers to most of my questions.

How do you get the export cheat sheets to work? I have tried to email to different emails, but still nothing. Using version 1.0.10

Also, is there a way to adjust the tiers? I don't like having a 30-40 point swing in my tiers.

Setting Player Pool for Rookie Drafts  ?????
The filters include a rookie option. Not supported for autodraft picks as that'd inevitably lead to complaints that our dynasty rankings in the app are awful, when we're not attempting to do that as of right now.

If they have $ amounts for each player I can guarantee the numbers will go down. Let's not talk about a half setup league - I think best put in all the keepers then see where it's at. Right now it's trying to work off partially entered settings.

I love the multiple flex rule for sure. I think it's just important to note how much difference the flex scoring can make. I remember looking into a really simple example last year. Someone was complaining WRs was too high; it was a 1QB/2RB/3WR/1TE/PK/DEF league. Entirely standard but no flex. Without PPR, that lack of flex is more or less like going from 2.9 RB/3.1WR to 2RB/3WR and that entirely explained the WR jump. Wondering if something similar is happening here.

I've definitely not seen the app do this before. I would double check the settings. If you'd like me to take a look PM me your login username/email and the name of the league.

Export cheat sheets should work ok. I just tested it here and it sent through. Although we do our best to try to avoid people using that - we only put it in extremely reluctantly. The app can adjust rankings so much during the draft that it's a big big loss to work from a static cheat sheet instead.

Tiers: no way to do this now. The tiers are dynamically generated according to how many starters you have at that position. If there was sufficient demand, we could allow modification of how many tiers to show at each position.

Where do I find these filters ??  Pretty sure I had it down in previous years

Hope your reluctance doesn't make this function go away in future versions...sometimes drafts happen out of reach of wifi, and the printed version is essential.

The app doesn't require wifi to work at a live draft. It requires wifi to download newest projections.

No, the option to print a cheatsheet should never go away.....period.

the funnel icon above the players list
No Funnel that I can see. I have the "classic" version downloaded a few days ago.

All I see on the opened page is  " File  View  Window  Help "  then  "Draft Status  Player Pool  Comments  Team Data  etc..."

In the Player Pool dropdown all I have is position tabs. Nothing else, No Funnel Icon

This thread is for the new version of the Draft Dominator, not the DD Classic. http://www.footballguys.com/footballguys-dominator-mobile.php

The DD classic has no option to see just rookies in the player pool. This is one of it's bugs, among others.

My solution to this glitch is to add an "R" in the notes of each player that is a rookie. Not the perfect solution but one that is able to be a decent workaround.

Working on a large, 32 team, ppr, full idp, keeper league, & running into quite a few more problems than my standard 12- team keeper league.

Random set-up issues include:

1) keeping 9 & drafting 9, but starting 11 in the line-up. It will not let me customize the draft rounds lower than the number of starters.

2) Manually adding players that are being kept but are currently NFL FAs. The players aren't listed in the player pool.

3) Minor- not being able to set playoff teams past 10, we have 12.

These are the few I'm seeing right now. I'll update as I find more.

On a different note, & this pertains to my regular league too- with the Classic I used to set roster limits for QBs & TEs to 2.5, because some teams take more than two & I wanted the mock to account for that. I can't do this in the New Version, & I'd really like to. I don't think the mocks are coming out accurately.

EDIT:  I take the part about missing FAs back. I was entering keepers & couldn't find Jonathan Anderson, ILB CHI. He is listed on their depth chart, so he is on a roster, but he is missing from the player pool. This could be because he was overlooked, but as you have said before, the new version is projection-based, & it's possible I guess that he is not being projected for any points. I think this would be a fairly substantial problem.

EDIT # 2:  I want to re-iterate that MFL import would be VERY helpful for a league like this. We need that back ASAP.

on 1) enter all your leagues' keepers first, for all teams. It'll then let you do this.

on 2), make sure you're using the latest version (1.0.10). Top right of the whole app, click on someone else's pick (make sure you're in a real draft, not a mock). Now under there, in the bottom right, type anything into the search box. Hit the green + sign to add the player. Fill out the form and add them. Go back to the keepers screen and search for them there - they'll now be available.

3) noted and will tweak in a future version!

On the roster limits, that DD Classic fix seems hacky to me. We're all for supporting DD Classic stuff here but this one sounds like you need to use the rankings profile feature instead, to add a new rankings profile in for the other teams (under the wrench above the players list) and use positional adjustments to move positions around.

MFL Import coming next year for this app.

Doesn't say that anywhere in this thread that I saw. I want DD for my computer, not my phone (they are for talking on). I use DD for research, not too tell me what to do. If you are telling us in the over 50 age bracket to F Off, No problem
It says that in the very first post! I'm just trying to keep this thread on topic which I hope you can respect.

To clarify: the DD version for phones/tablets is now available on all platforms, including desktop. It includes loads of advanced options and information for research. All ages welcome and all feedback gladly received and noted. This is now our recommended version.

DD Classic is still available.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Been running a few mock drafts with the new app and I think the AI does a much better job of mocking semi-realistic drafts for my league (super flex).  But no Team Stats window (like in the Classic DD) feels like a huge liability while drafting.  Team Stats is such a good tool for predicting runs before they happen.  I always feel that it gives me an edge over my league mates and allows me to be ahead of the curve on positional runs.

Adding a Team Stats window (like the one from DD Classic) and allowing some kind of spreadsheet based import of projections seem like the two most important features to add on IMO.

BTW Big ups to Simon for being so responsive in this thread and on IM.  I am sure I am not the only bugging him on IM and he has been Johnny-On-The-Spot.  So thanks Simon, I appreciate it.

Ah, Thanks.  Prefer the layout and overall features of Classic. Wouldn't ever use it though without MFL Import. way to much typing etc to do for larger (16 team IDP Dynasty) leagues. I compile my own Exel sheets using various ADPs and use DD as a comparator and for tracking trends during draft

Sorry, did not catch that this thread was for the new version only

The team stats window equivalent is there on Rosters => By Pos (before you select a team). The app is automatically projecting runs using the predict picks feature too (the faded selections on the draft board)

I am a mac user who has been using the 'classic' windows draft dominator for many years (through vmware fusion/parallels/etc).  I have been testing out the new mac-native draft dominator app (version 1.0.10).  While the layout will certainly take some getting used to, I think the design is (overall) not bad and starting to grow on me.  That said, I have some issues that I hope can be addressed:

1. Speed / Performance

I really like the panel in the lower-right part of the screen that displays the current team that is on the clock and the available players.  However, one big problem is that this panel is verrrrrrry sloooooow to respond to changing position filters.  In a real draft, with limited time for each pick, I am often racing to keep current with all the picks and while this panel could be a helpful way to stay on top of things, the slow filter speed is just killing me.  I am using a new, fast, retina macbook pro with lots of ram, and use this machine to play much more cpu/ram/graphic-intensive games, so it's definitely got the necessary horsepower.  The app just seems to be poorly optimized in this regard.  I don't know if this is specific to the mac build, but it needs attention.

2. Versioning

Version 1.0.10 for Mac is the only version I've downloaded and used, so I don't have the full app upgrade experience yet, but from what I can tell, the only way to upgrade the app (when the next version is available) will be to go out to the website, download another zip file, unzip it, and move the new app bundle to replace the existing one.  This is pretty clunky in an age when most apps automatically check and initiate upgrades from within the app itself.

3. Player data

The app does not make it obvious when/if the player data has been updated.  It would be great if the app could provide a proactive pop-up or other permanent visual cue indicating the date/time when data was last downloaded/updated.  Yes, you can find this by clicking into the cloud menu, but why not just stamp it somewhere in the main UI (navigation bar/menu bar/etc).

4. Auction

I don't know how to interpret the price data that the app provides during auctions.  It seems clear that the "retail" price calculated becomes more and more discounted through the course of the draft as budgets diminish.  How are these prices calculated?  Is the basic recommendation to bid all players up to their current retail value?  How do positional needs/team composition factor into the auction pricing - or do they?

All things considered, although I am a big fan of the classic dominator, it has been clear for many years that a new app was needed.  I'm hopeful about this one, but it does seem quite raw so far and I haven't decided yet if I'm ready to rely on it for this year's drafts.  I hope there are more app updates planned in July and August, and hope the Mac platform isn't on the back burner.

1/ *reedit: just fixed this and will get that fix out soon! My guess is every time you change the positions, it's also updating the main list on the left to show n/a as every player's rank. It's updating that other list which is causing the issue.

2/ we know how to fix this but couldn't get it in in time for 2016.

3/ you should see the app visually update its data by masking the screen. It will do this each time you restart the app

4/ how are auction prices calculated is not something I can cover probably in a forum post. But it's valuing players by VBD and getting a "value per $" ratio by dividing through total $ left. That's the basics of it. Make sure the studs and duds slider matches your leagues values and then bid up to or just under the current retail value. Ideally you want discounts on those values. Positional needs don't factor in because we don't think you should overpay at a position at any time. But it will prevent teams bidding on a WR in mocks if they're already strong there.

The mac platform is definitely not on the back burner ever again. All platforms now advance with the same features at the same speed.

The app is essentially finished for this year pending one or two fixes (such as the above). That's because introducing changes means the potential for new bugs and issues given the huge scope of potential inputs people can give to this thing. And that's bad in August. We have plenty planned for 2017.

That's nice.  Little disappointed that I missed that.  The program is definitely robust and I like the look.  I will keep working with it up until my draft.  I am sure part of the issue is just the learning curve on my end.

May I suggest updating the OP with the answered questions from the thread?

That's a great idea; but it's an awful long thread to trawl through now and David's is the first post (which I can't edit!) If someone else had the time to collate the Q&A I can ping David to paste it into the first post.

I also wanted to make you guys aware of the two demo videos we've recorded. The first was nearly two weeks ago for basic setup:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6X0bl6Srhs

The second takes a really deep dive into the advanced features of the app. It's long. Because the app has a lot of advanced features! But Joe and I ran through a draft and used a different feature for each pick, and then looked at some auction stuff at the end:

I thought that I saw this raised before but I couldn't locate the post.  Am I correct that you can enter league settings on a desktop and then access those settings on an iPad or another device.  But, once a draft has started, you can only access the draft data on the particular device that you first used for the draft?

100% correct.

Is the iPad version free for subscribers?  I tried to click on the "Download on the App Store" link from your site and I get a text error message. I then went to the App Store and was advised that it was a $4.95 download.

I was notified that there is a new version and downloaded v 1.0.11. Is there any version control documentation that lists the modifications? It would be helpful to know what bugs were fixed and/or features added. Thanks.

We don't have this right now. Agreed it would be good and it's on our list to work out more formal release procedures.

Am I doing something wrong?  Whenever there is an update needed it just takes me to the draft dominator page and does nothing.  To update it, I have had to close the program and redownload the setup file off of the website...

Why cant this process be easier to update....see the classic DD update ability as an example...

Ok so there are two different "update" procedures in the app.

1. The update you're referring to, which is new features or bug fixes, ie code updates. These require a re-download and re-install of the program. We'll smarten this up for future versions but I don't believe it's any different from DD Classic (except that's been doing one release a year for a while)

2. Actual data updates, e.g. projections, rankings or news. Every time you start the app it'll update these and you can manually update them from More => Update Player Data => Update Now. That is completely different from 1. and happens automatically and can also be triggered manually.

Another request for being able to upload custom projections.  Ideally I could upload projections and be able to still use the sliders for weighing.  ie:  Dodds 33%, Henry 33%, Custom 33%.

How do I add custom scoring rule for a yardage milestone point system where you get 3 points when you hit 250 yards, then another 3 for every 50 yards after that.  So 250 yards is 3 points, 300 yards is 6 points total, 350 yards is 9 points total, etc.

I'm assuming it's just setting minimums for 250, 300, 350, etc. and assigning them all to 3 points?

Another nice addition would be to have some pre-set scoring rules for the popular leagues.  That way, I don't have to set it up every time.  For example, FFPC (FBG), NFFC, MFL, etc.

I am getting ready to use on a real draft, FBG, and noticed that the fantasy points don't add up with the projections.  For example, K. Allen has 282 points, with a projection of 98/1125/7, 0 rushing.  That projection would be 252.5.  This is the regular, not upside projection.  I have taken week 17 in and out with no change in points.  I have also noticed the projected games, but 15.1 should lower the points.  Some players are higher and some lower.  Why the differences?

Thanks

I've noticed this between classic DD and new DD...I just assumed the scoring difference was because I clicked something wrong/different but I can't find it.

I have not seen an answer, so if this was answer I apologize.

Is there a way to take windows inside the app and separate them out? For example I would like to open the big draft board and put that on my second screen while still using the draft dominator to draft.

I don't see a way to do this.

I'm watching the 2nd video and in the "Pick Shortlist"...how is "Targets" not part of the stat breakdown?

Also...when clicking on a player specifically...I'd like to be able to see more than just the last 3 years of stats for him.  I know the last 3 matter most but it'd be nice to see any trends.  It really should scroll down and let you see more years than the last 3.

I've said it before but it's big enough that I think it really should be moved to the top of the list, since it should be a simple add...Position Ranks.  I need to know who is RB32 vs RB 35, etc...real quick with a glance...

What about points per game somewhere simple...seeing Leveon Bell with XX points per game means more to me than a guy who will have more total points just because he plays 16 games vs Bell's 12.

I'd also like to see total fantasy points as part of the stat breakdown for previous years.  I don't want to have to do the math of how many points for receptions, yards, tds, etc on the fly...just tally it for ppr, standard, whatever...maybe give the user that option?

I know I probably overvalue it but I'd also love to see a quick symbol for who is in their "Contract Year".  All things being equal...I want the guy in his contract year as my tie-breaker.
