It's Christmas in July - Draft Dominator software available for your desktop (2 Viewers)

That just shows a percentage for each position for each team. I know what he was talking about. It used to show a total score for each team. It might have been average points per week. Whatever it was it was useful to see how effective that particular mock was.

How do we see overall how our team is in relation to the rest of the teams?
Yup, that's exactly it. The percentages - while nice - don't show much of anything. I used to do write-ups every year about how they drafted compared to everyone else and now I can do total team strength but not much else. It was a short write-up this year.

And I'd still like the current roster to change when the next owner comes up to draft. Not sure if you saw that part.  :D

Thanks. On #1 league settings will sync, but individual draft results/picks don't this year. We're hoping to add that next year.
Should this work all the time? I signed into my FBG's account (subscriber) and it only download 1 of my 3 leagues, so I had to set the other 2 up manually.

Also, agree on the sync'ing old draft files. If I was able to sync to the cloud and get all 3 leagues it wouldn't matter, but if that isn't the feature (only 1) then I'd much rather start off by pulling my old ones next year. I did that with the old DD every year, open the old one so I didn't have to setup the leagues every year.

The only thing that I miss is the SOS. That was one of the things that I always liked to see when deciding on players in the late rounds. I like the complimentary players, which was one of my big things with SOS and the comparing players where you can see their projected points (sort of a SOS), but I always liked looking at certain weeks for byes and sorting to see who had easy weeks even if the players weren't close in ADP. Helped me know if I could wait a bit on bye week players or not.

Sorry if it's been covered, but this is the first time using the dominator on the computer.  I double checked that I entered them both in the same, but what is the reason for the big difference when listing the value of the players overall between the dominator vs. the customized cheatsheets? Was just surprised at the difference in players it was suggwsting I take at my picks.

Either way, great app, and my son and I have been having a blast doing mocks this past couple of weeks.

it depends by what metric; there's lots of ways under rosters. Issue with avg points per week per position is it's going to ignore bench strength. but the app can show you avg points per week for your lineups in a grid with all teams compared from the rosters tab. just doesn't break down those numbers by positions; a similar grid compares those % strengths of positions across all teams

Complementary players option is under the asterisk icon above the players list.

Weekly weights is under the wrench icon.

Draft files can't be read from the new system I'm afraid as it's web based. But it will sync with the new MyFootballguys system and we'll have scoring/lineup setting import direct from league providers there soon too.

Dominator can just do so many more calculations as it's running on your device not our servers, and knows much more info about the state of your draft, and many more adjustable settings in Dominator too.

I'll ask it a different way.  In last year's version of DD after you were done with the draft it gave an overall score for each team.  That way I could see how I did using that particular strategy.  Is there anyway to see that in the new DD or did you remove that functionality?

I see that it shows avg points per week but to get an overall comparison I would need to total all weeks for each team.

Got that, and poked around even more last nighr  Was wondering more why even the raw points projections/vpd numbers were so different vs the excel app.  I just assume it is different people's projections used?

yes; but also this number accounts for games missed. ie leveon bell's gives him 3 games credit according to likely worst rostered RB in the league x3

If I am drafting in a keeper league and want to identify players that might have more value in 2017 than in 2016, is there anything in the app that would help with that?

Hey Simon, whenever I update the software my settings get messed. The first time, it changed mt draft order for my snake draft, and now no QBs are showing up in my auction draft list.

I was asking for this earlier.

It's huge for me...week to week...in order to see how my team looks compared to others with the updated projections/rankings each week.

But I guess I need to use another app for that functionality.

However, I think this piece is instrumental and absolutely a necessity for drafting...especially for mock drafts.

It's so useful and tells me at the blink of an eye how one mock compares to another mock strategy.

I can really mess around with different ideas and settle on the one that seems to give me the best overall score.

I can also see very quickly how I stack up against division mates in head to head weeks with them...

And I can see very quickly how my playoffs will look compared to everyone.

I'm sure it's something that is on the list for whenever...but it really needs to be moved up near the top...quickly.

Not sure if I'm doing anything wrong, but when asked to log into cloud, I click on the login button but nothing happens.

Individual issues guys are best at apps@footballguys.com. It's near impossible to try to maintain multiple conversation threads in this one forum thread; so @djjosee, @Chad32676 if you could email there FAO Simon I can help you while knowing I won't miss a reply from you.

@dancer: no, but you can use edit players under the wrench icon here.

@tdoss: everyone has a completely different priority order on the features they'd like to see. Because there's already an average weekly score on the Roster => Schedule tab, I'm not sure what a total would really add to the app. But I'm sure based on how much you seem to want this that I'm missing something there, so let me know what that is and we can take another look.

Simon, I believe that the tool they are referencing was a VBD score total for every team in the league.  It was a grid that showed each team total and by position, and there was a radio button that could determine if you wanted to look at starters only or whole team strength.  This wasn't raw scoring, it was the "over/under" the baseline score for each team.  Obviously since people could set and use different baselines (Joe's secret formula, worst starter, custom) you could get different results based on what was important to you.

At the end of my drafts in my main league it started as a joke (of course I had the highest score since the program was on my computer) and in recent years as soon as the draft was over everyone wanted to see where they ranked.  I'm trying as hard as I can to move to the new DD, but little things like this make me wax nostalgic for the old way.  I have a few other questions, but I'll try to respect your request and submit those to the email address.

Thanks for your work on this.  I know you and the guys believe this is a far better tool for the end result.  I think what we're seeing is that many more people than expected appreciated the nuts and bolts that were used along the way to get to those results - now that some of those are missing the feeling is that we are being given fish more than taught to fish, if that makes any sense.

That is the main thing I've got out of this thread; and what we simply could not have got without letting you guys see what we had here so far and getting your feedback. Thanks!

This is exactly what I was referring to.

I updated my dd weekly and used that grid as a quick check on how I wad doing and how upcoming weeks looked.

I could see quickly in one grid how I stacked up against the league.

I outscored the rest of the league by 150 points last year.

But I get that we have to use lineup dominator or whatever for that now but being able to see during and after draft is crucial and to be able to see those quantitative results against everyone during mocks is a necessity in my opinion.

Honestly as long as you guys still provide the projection updates for old dd...I'll keep using it.

I just don't see new dd ever getting up to the level of old dd.

Especially since so many have to explain the features we relied upon in Old dd.

Don't get me wrong...new dd is iphone.  I just prefer samsung.

I don't mean it as a knock Simon but no other way to say it...it's like you never really used old dd.

I have spent countless hours messing with the Classic DD. I think a lot of this is specifically understanding how you guys use it, or the terminology/abbreviations that have developed over the years to refer to certain features.

I would hope that you would give the new app another go next year. You don't know what the state of it will be in 2017 so you should at least check it out before making that decision.

Do these linked scoring settings properly convey the following RB scoring rules?

- 6 pt TDs

- Yardage scored only via milestones.  75 yards = 3 points, then every 25 yards after that gets another 3 points.

The problem I'm seeing is that projected fantasy points for my RBs are way higher than historical values for the league.  Last year's RB1 scored 117 points in this system and you can see in the background of the screenshot I linked that the first RB is projected at 164 points and it slowly trickles from there.

Remember to keep it civil in here, fellas. You are allowed to dislike the product but do *not* insult, denigrate, or otherwise attack the FBG staff who are working tirelessly to deliver the best product possible.

It seems like the Auction AI is messed up.  I cranked up the autodraft skill on a couple of teams for a mock, and both of them end up with almost half their cap unspent and a really bad team.  I've repeated this three times.

So I used this in a draft on Weds. It was pretty good, but the huge thing missing was the look ahead and suggestions based on your scoring system feature like in DD Classic.

I think in my big money league I'll use classic. Unless someone can point me to that feature.

Without question I'll check it out next year. In fact...I'm EXPECTING to use it next year. Give me the custom ADP and the manual look ahead feature and I think it's a go.

I'm not sure what you mean by the look ahead - the new app will predict all the picks between your current pick and the next on the draft board, and auto-considers this in the rankings. But again, we need to be more transparent there. I think the app does what classic does here for the most part, it's just it's not a) shouting front and center it's doing it b) it's doing it automatically rather than on a user trigger, and c) it's missing one or two customization options.

All the suggestions are for sure based on the scoring settings you enter.

Awesome, great to hear! They'll be a lot more coming than that too.

I have an idea as to how to split the draft board into a new window, too, for those who like to put that on another monitor for others to see.

I can't repeat that here so let me know more details. Email would be best for individual issues (apps@footballguys.com)

Some questions...

Will this work on a Chromebook? Do I download the DD through the Google Play store or the FBG Website? Do I pay Google the $5? Will this work for In-Season Team Management (in other words, after the draft what good is it)?

The iPad version of the new DD has a bug that made me dump using it halfway through my auction.

At one point a team nominated a QB but the software came up with a pop up saying that nominating this player puts that team over the limit at that position. Our league allows this because nominating a player doesn't mean bidding on them.

It then asked  if it should proceed anyway. Hitting ok to proceed anyway did not result in the player getting nominated and there is no other way I could see to assign a player to a team.

We need to be able to override settings like this during a fast paced draft.

Not sure if I want to use this for my next live draft in case something similar happens.

Well, I haven't read through this entire thread, but I have to say, so far I hate this new app on PC.  I've been using DD for several years, and thought it was the best tool available.

I'm trying to use the new version tonight it on my first auction draft of this year, and so far I have to say I don't like anything about it.

For instance, all of my old league's settings are in previous DD files, is there a way to import those files into this new version or do I have to re-enter everything manually?

I love the layout of the old DD, with multiple windows to see different aspects simultaneously, is that still possible?

Does the old DD still function?  I tried updating the projections and getting errors because of the STL Rams move to LA, so couldn't find the team.  So when I open it up, no Rams players are in the database.  Is there a way to solve this?

I tried the new app at my first draft (auction) on Saturday.  The interface is different, obviously, but intuitive once you get into it and use it a few times. I like the "web" feel of it, with the player cards with lots of useful information at a glance.

The biggest issue I ran into was drafted players not displaying properly when I had to use a "work around" for roster spots not all being filled.  After temporarily tweaking settings to allow for some picks, moving the settings back to the starting settings (to get accurate calculations of auction budget remaining, etc.), some of the drafted players were not showing up in the drafted list.

Basically, we allow someone to draft 16 position players, and bypass a K and D until just before Week 1, if they wish.  But I couldn't find a way to configure it to both show D/ST and K in the player list (because they eventually are required, and most people do draft at least one of each) AND allow me to fill those spots with position players if someone chose to pick another upside player instead, for a few weeks.  I have used Classic for this league for years, and never had this issue so I'm pretty sure there was an "override"/"are you sure?" function which isn't available on the new app.  It just told me, basically "You can't put that player on that team because they still need a Kicker."  No option to override and continue.  That's more just feedback rather than an issue I'd email about, since I have no more auction drafts.

It's a good start - keep working at it!

Using the new version as we speak...hard to describe but feels like so much of the information that I'm used to is not there or a couple of screens away.  I preferred seeing everything on the single screen, as I run a draft on other software at the same time.

Very disappointed, I'll be looking for options for my Vegas draft next weekend.  Wonder if FBG will give refunds?

Well the verdict is in.  I still prefer the classic.  I tried to love the new desktop version, but I realize it may just be best suited for tablet and phone users.  After having to re-download the software due to numerous updates, I kept having to rename teams and change the draft order.  For some reason each software update kept causing team names to change and score settings kept getting messed up.  It became time consuming to constantly have to update back to my original configuration.  Even though I kept doing so and trying to perform various mocks, I noticed I never liked my final drafts.  Plus the rate my team feature kept giving me low grades which I never experienced in the classic.  Finally, I caved and went back to my roots.  I installed the classic and uploaded last year's file which had all my setting saved.  That took a whole 2 seconds versus the constant updating required with every new software update on the new version.  Now that I was up and running on the classic, I ran a couple mocks and executed the rate my team feature.  So glad I reinstalled the classic.  All my rates from every expert was back to 90-99%.  I finally saw my lock to make the playoffs icon again.  Only time will tell how my team performs, but my first draft tonight using the classic was a success.  Second best team rating in Yahoo and all the experts seem to believe I'm 99% or a lock to make the playoffs.  I so wanted to fall in love with the new desktop version, but I realize the pc launch may be a bit premature.  In the future I hope the kinks and bugs are worked out since there was so much more data that could be accessed.  But I can't sacrifice draft performance for easier access to player news and expert notes. It seems the new software has been created as a phone/template version first and has been trying to evolve to work on desktops.  I know the intention is there, but let's call a spade a spade and realize that the new version may only work well for what it was originally designed for.  I hope we can keep the classic around since I got the impression from this thread that the future emphasis was to be placed on the newly created desktop version.  There's no doubt from my many attempts to want to love the new desktop version that dd classic still has better drafting success.  I'll take the old algorithms and it seems the experts agree since the rate my team scores are always higher using the classic.  IF IT AIN'T BROKE....LET IT BE, LET IT BE

Well said, this is exactly my sentiment.  This is clearly a tablet/phone app first and foremost.  I'm still trying to figure out how to see my roster grid view, best value remaining, round by round grid, etc.

One of the most irritating things is the percentage of players on everyone's roster under "By Pos".  What a useless stat.  I also could not figure out how to resize columns within the windows.  There's no chance I'll use this program again.

Just completed my first auction of this year and am bitterly disappointed with this program.

I still have last year's DD installed, but when I updated my player data, I received an error because of no LA Rams team was in the game, did you also have this problem drock13a?

Used it today in a heavy FBGs draft (with a staff member) and I like the new DD. Some thoughts:

Pros:

  • Complimentary players is a really nice option. When it got down to my backups, I always liked using the Strength of Schedule, but this was a nice way to see that info quicker.
  • I liked the short list and being able to compare multiple players. One odd thing was that today the staff tab seemed to only show the rankings instead of the blurbs I recall seeing before.
  • Clicking on a pick to reset the draft there was nice. Easier than undoing every pick.
  • The player pop-ups are much better than the link to the FBGs web site.
  • It was pretty easy to use.
  • Setting up the scoring rules was better than the old DD for a league that I haven't drafter where you could add custom scoring.
  • I liked the keeper setup better as well.
Cons:

  • Like complimentary players, but it would be nice to still have access to the SOS for each position. Way too hard to have to go into every player to see their schedule.
  • While you see the number of players for all the teams on one screen for roster by positions, it is way too busy. I used it a lot before to look for potential runs and see if I could wait. The different colors, percents shown and team abbreviations (didn't realize where they were used) made it really hard to decipher at a glance like the old DD team stats were.
  • The old DD was one click to go from team to team to see the rosters. Having to go back to the team list and then click another team just made it seem really hard to quickly compare teams. I'd recommend maybe a scrolling pane on the roster by positions below the table of counts/%s that shows a simple view of the current roster. It doesn't have to be as detailed and big as the single team roster page, just an easy listing of each team's picks in a simple scrolling pane.
  • I think the ability to customize the windows in the old DD was something I really liked. I knew where to get the info, but you could make your own dashboard so to speak.
  • As the draft went on (this was 20 rounds), each pick took longer to process. I was using the PC version and the commish had the iPad version and I showed him as he didn't see that and he was amazed at how long it took. This isn't an old laptop, but I could tell it got progressively worse almost like it was reprocessing everything on every pick and it got noticeably slow (10-15 seconds for the pick to happen after the click) when we were around round 12. I don't recall exactly when it was noticeable.
Maybe the cons could be accomplished another way, but I watched the demo and didn't see a way to do them.

No I didn't, I subscribe so when I downloaded the most recent update in classic the LA Rams Defense appears.  Also very solid point, I never understood why they made it percentage by positions on other teams versus the actual number of players selected in those various positions like it is in classic dd.

You make some very solid points with regards to the pros and cons.  I feel there could be a ton of potential, but it currently appears that too many bugs exists.  Just as many software developers experience with initial beta releases, flaws exist and they need to be addressed.  Knowing that this was initially built to perform best on mobile devices, the desktop version may never live up to those same expectations.  Just as, dd classic will never be suited for mobile devices.  Maybe down the road the new dd will work well on desktops, but currently in it's initial release, there just happens to be many bugs appearing from update to update.  Until that can be perfected, I'll stay with what has been proven to be a rock in successful drafting for years...DD CLASSIC!!!

Some questions...

Will this work on a Chromebook? Do I download the DD through the Google Play store or the FBG Website? Do I pay Google the $5? Will this work for In-Season Team Management (in other words, after the draft what good is it)?
I sent an email with this question and was told it does not work on a Chromebook. That made it useless for me but in fairness the classic DD doesn't install on a Chromebook either.

I did some quick searching in this thread, and didn't see anyone ask this, so apologies if it has been addressed already...

My local league does an in-person auction draft, for which I can't use the draft dominator, but I have used the DD's export feature in the past as a foundation for my hardcopy cheatsheet that I bring with me to the draft.  We have a big league with large rosters, and this year upon export, it cut off the player lists much earlier than it has in the past.  I don't have the exact numbers, but I feel like it cut off maybe around RB72, for example? My league probably drafts ~72 RBs, but the DD export is based on projections not rankings, so I value a guy who's projected for 0 points (but would jump dramatically if his situation/opportunity improved) vs. a guy like Kyle Jusczyk or John Kuhn or somebody who is projected for 20 carries and 2TDs, but has little chance of doing more than that, even if other RBs on their NFL teams were to get injured...

The DD itself obviously has huge player database, but is there a reason the export doesn't include the larger player list like it has in the past?   Thanks!

Bummer. :kicksrock: I had a free-be Surface that the classic didn't work on last year too. I was hoping to not have to use my boat anchor laptop, was psyched when I saw Dodds "All Platforms" and a bunch of people saying it worked in their Chrome browser. Glad i didn't spend the $5.

Will this new version work for in season management? I see it's still getting its sea legs for drafts, but I was thinking maybe for the during season. Even tho i'm not using the laptop in the draft, If i would be a good in season helper it would still be worth the money.

Well I can tell I'm late to this party. This is what I get for not cracking this thread.

Do we still automatically get updates for DD if we did not get Pro? I just get the usual 1 year subscription every year.

How old is the data in the DD? If I did not but the Pro can I rely on this? It seems like the player detail is from the early off season?

I've been using the DD for a few years but this newfangled version has me discombobulated.

Can someone give me the lodown on what is the best way to use it? I usually just export the rankings. Anything else I can or should be doing? Thanks.
