Izzy's replacement in STL (1 Viewer)

Right now? Franklin.

In due time? McClellan or some minor leaguer that I've read is like McClellan with nastier stuff but less experience.

I don't think Springer's the guy, he may have been given an opportunity had he been healthy and effective in April but he wasn't.

From what I've read Cards homers look at Franklin like Tigers homers look at Todd Jones and Cleveland homers used to look at Joe Bo, get your bottle of Jack and Tums ready. It's not always pretty, but he seems to get the job done often enough not to give you an ulcer.

I added Franklin in both of my deeper leagues - the 16 teamer after Thursday's BS the 12 teamer after last night's BS, he was drafted in my holds league, and I'm leaving him out there in my 10 team H2H as I already have 4 closers.

If you're in a 12+ team league or in a 10 team league with closer problems I think he's the speculative add.

I think itll be Franklin although I picked up McClellan just in case. Whoever it is, they probably will only get save opportunities for a week or 2 while Izzy gets his head screwed on right. As long as Izzy is healthy neither of them will steal the longterm job from him.

Jason Isringhausen admitted after Friday's game that he might need some time out of the closer's role.Izzy says he's healthy and his velocity has been fine, but he's clearly lost some confidence. "I'm just getting sick of embarrassing myself and letting my team down," Isringhausen said. The Cardinals believe poor mechanics has led to the right-hander's control problems. The answer for now is probably for him to take a few days off and throw in the pen a couple of times to try to work through the issue. Ryan Franklin would probably close in his place.

Ok, thanks guys. I think I'm going to drop Rafy Betancourt and pick up Franklin.

When does JoBo come back?
Why?
Losing his job, correct? I don't have room to hang on to guys, and I need saves.
Joe Borowski (strained triceps) threw a 25-pitch bullpen session on Thursday morning.

The Indians think that Borowski's strained triceps was the reason his velocity was down this season, and Borowski seems to agree. "I could see my arm speed, compared with the way it was before, was decidedly better," he said. Borowski will throw three more bullpen sessions before pitching in a simulated game and heading out on a short rehab assignment. He could be back closing in two weeks.
By the time Borowski comes back Izzy will have his closer role back IMO. Id rather have Raffy for the next 2 weeks than Frnaklin who at most will get 2 or 3 save opportunities and thats even if he is the new closer.

Fair point.

 And worst case, if Franklin does keep the job you have arguably the best MR in the game behind a guy who may lose the job two weeks after coming back anyway.

The dude has 11 saves tops on my team and he is getting replaced. This does not speak high of my pitching staff.

I think his 11 saves are tops in baseball. This does not speak high of baseball.
George Sherrill has 12.Also, just heard LaRussa's comments before the game, Franklin and Springer will committee the closer role with possibly a lefty getting an opportunity in the right situation. Sounds a lot like what Seattle did when Putz went on the DL, this doesn't sound like a situation to bother yourself with in smaller leagues. Izzy will still get action, but it will be in less stressful situations until he gets his confidence back, St Louis will re-visit the situation in a few weeks.

Francisco Rodríguez has 14.

My gut says Flores gets a couple of saves in Lefty/Lefty situations.

Izzy will be back in before it makes any kind of difference.

I'd love to see them give a two week look at Perez, but that'll never happen in this situation.
