Jags will play an international game the next year through 2016 (1 Viewer)

I understand why the rams were doing it and the business link but I really don't understand this one from the NFL's side of it.

If you want to expand your wares into new markets, don't you normally ring the doorbell carrying the GOOD stuff?

I guess all the people who said Shad wouldn't move the team to LA were right. He's looking the other direction. London Jaguars does kind of make sense.

IIRC To break the stadium lease the Jags have to show a loss for some number of consecutive years.Perhaps that is the goal?

The Rams signed with London because supposedly they were moving to L.A.

Then the Rams backed out of London except for one game because supposedly they wanted to stay (all other problems there remain though...).

And now the Jags have signed on to London for multiple years because..... {?}

Yeah. That should be enough time for L.A. to finally make a deal. the sticking point for the Rams is primarily I think that Kroenke would have to relinquish control.

What if someone merely saw an opportunity to flip a franchise and make some money, the kind of money between buying a declining property in a small market and selling it a few years later as a potentially hot property in the second biggest market?

I think part of the motivation to expand to 18 games is so there can be two byes, thus making the logistics of teams travelling to London a LOT easier.

Khan is a shrewd businessman and knows that the Jags lack in merchandise sales.

For everybody saying this is the first step to moving somewhere else, just remember he just bankrolled a multimillion dollar makeover of the Jags locker room and improved the stadium sound system. Rumors are rife he's talking with the city about adding a long overdue practice dome on his dime if the city will okay the use of stadium land.

For the rest of the naysayers, the Jags have not had a blackout for the last two years. They have quietly increased ticket sales this year. An offense that resembles anything with a pulse may be enough to get other fans off the fence and their wallet. Also saw twitter rumors that the Jags may try to take advantage of new league rules and remove tarps for specific games (TebowJets and Pats??).

To me, this is all about a man with an international business background looking to expand sales.

I say leave it as is and let a poor product keep Ding Dong Goodell from planting a franchise over there.

There were some articles that suggest that if the Rams did play a bunch of "home" game not in StL that it could actually be used by the city/stadium to prevent them from being free to move. Sorry, no link, but it's possible that they're canceling their London games so they CAN move.

He originally tried to buy the Rams and failed. Then he bought the Jags. I don't think it's a coincidence that the two teams he has tried to buy have been serious candidates to move to LA.

Quite possible that the teams that can be bought have weak financials/home bases and thus are rumoured candidates for moving to LA

When have the Jags been a serious candidate to move to LA?

I don't think it's coincidence he has business ties to both cities. His business is based in Southern Illinois. The car parts it produces for mainly Toyota are sent through Jacksonville where Toyota has a large distributorship and port presence.
