Jair Jurrjens....are you worried about the shoulder? (1 Viewer)

He had soreness so they did an MRI. The MRI was okay (no structural damage and everything looked normal) so the doctor recommended some rest and diagnosed it as inflammation.

I know it's early, but does this type of injury in February worry you? I have to declare my keepers soon and I was thinking about keeping Jurrjens.

I'll let the writers at Razzball summarize my thoughts...

Jair Jurrjens went for an MRI the other day. Results came back negative, which is oddly enough a positive. That’s nice. I wouldn’t go near him with your fantasy baseball team. I don’t wish ill on anyone, except for Jamie Kennedy. If you want risk, leave the mayo out in the sun for three hours. If you want to win your fantasy baseball league, don’t go drafting a guy who’s already getting MRIs. The list of players who have had arm problems in February and have gone on to have solid seasons is one: Luke Appling, but he was a total hypochondriac and probably didn’t have any arm problems to begin with. I’ve dropped Jar-Jar out of my top 40 starters for 2010 fantasy baseball and took 40 innings away from his projections.
He's been moved to my avoid list, and buried somewhere near 100 on my SP rankings.

overreact much? i'd be stunned if he didn't finish top 50.

I have him for a buck in my keeper auction league. I'll take a chance on him for a buck. What's to lose?

No. I wasn't that high on him to start with and now he's having shoulder problems before the season begins after heavy usage over the last couple of seasons. There are a lot better risks to take than Jair, and it's not like I don't like the guy. I was one of Jair's biggest supporters before most knew who he was and HATED the Renteria deal. He is not as good as his numbers last year and he's not a high K pitcher - he's a high 3/low 4 era, low 1.3, 6 k/9 pitcher. Good in real life, just average in fantasy. I don't like drafting average and low upside players to my team, it only magnifies when I am not confident they're healthy.

Very lucky pitcher last year.

he's had 2 full seasons as a starter in the majors.

he's 27-20 with ERAs of 3.68 and 2.60, whips of 1.37 and 1.21. he averaged 6Ks/9IP last year. 152 in 215.

you now expect his ERA to go up by 1.5 over 2009 and be a good bit higher than 2008. based on what?

i will predict an ERA of 3.5, a WHIP of 1.3 and another 14 wins. he's well worth the $9 i will have tied up in him.

Three pitchers in baseball last year had a FB% greater than 40% and a HR/FB of 7% or lower - Greinke, Kershaw, and Jurrjens. How does the song go? One of these is not like the other, one of them doesn't belong? I don't know, something like that. He can be the pitcher you expect if his gb% bounces back to 08 form, but if it's anything like 09 he'll need to be lucky again, which is possible but expecting it would be nothing but blind optimism. $9 in a standard 12 team mixed league isn't a bad price, even though there's better ways to spend your $.

its 10 teams NL only. we don't try to have teams filled with superstars so mixed leagues are out.
