Jamal Lewis (1 Viewer)

Are Lewis' days as NFL starter numbered? Will Baltimore part ways, and if so will anyone else be looking to add him? Could he fit in Denver , NY (either team), Texas???

What do you think of his chances for 2007?

I know he's a popular whipping boy, but the thing that gets my attention is that he's still only 27. People wrote off Travis Henry and he struggled for two seasons and then came back with 1200 yards and a 4.5 ypc average. I discount last year because of the jail time and injury recovery issues. However, 2006 was quite disappointing.

As noted in another thread, all four teams that are in the conference finals are in multi-RB situations. Perhaps he'll land somewhere where he can be an important part of an offense, but not the main guy anymore.

He improved on his decisiveness from last year but still did a lot dancing and didn't seem nearly as powerful as he'd been in the past. He might be the perfect compliment to Parker but he'd cost too much. He's kind of a tweener at this point. He's not quite a backup but not a good starter but he'll want starter money.

1132 and 3.6 ypc is a far cry from 2066 and 5.3 ypc. Yes, his line wasn't as good but the qb play was the best its been since he's been a Raven but overall he doesn't even look like the same back.

He's almost assuredly out of baltimore. His contract is prohibitively expensive this year, so he will be cut unless he renegotiates to a considerably cheaper deal.

Considering how they stuck with him during all his legal problems, I think Jamal stays. I think he renegotiates, gets some money up front in a signing bonus, and plays a few more years in Balt....

As crazy as this sounds but I think Baltimore would want someone who can break some tackles and create on his own more than he can. Jamal used to be able to do that but appears incapable at this point.

wasn't denver really the only team that looked at him last year? I don't see much interest after watching him play this year, talk about slow....

This is true. I expect them to re-sign Lewis. FYI, for those who want to know. Lewis is owed $5 mil roster bones and $5 mil salary for 2007. Way too much for Lewis. THere was a Baltimore Sun article (Dec 28) that said they will want to re-sign him to a one year deal for $3 mil. I took the article as conjecture, but who knows.

With some of the marginal talent at the starting RB position accorss the league, I find it hard to believe a 27 yeard old coming off a season of 1100yds and 9TDs would not have a starting gig somewhere.I think he stays in Balt as well, he fits their system well.

I agree with this.

I hate to say it but I'm on board with you here Fanatic. With Lewis, Ogden, Mcnair and some of the other defensive players in Balt, they have a 1-3 year window at most. I don't think they are going to change focus at the rb position after a somewhat descent year last year (3.6 per carry is descent at best). I just don't see them starting over right now .

The ravens had the 31st rush yds/carry average in the league: That's next to last (only AZ's 3.2 was worse)Even if the team as a whole had averaged Jamal's 3.6 instead of the team's collective 3.4 (hard to believe the others were worse) the team would have ranked 29th - tied with the juggernaut cleveland browns.3.6 ypc is not "decent at best". It's downright bad.

Yeah, Tippy Toes Lewis is done.
No way . I cant believe a 27 years old RB is done .He needs a new challenge a new team and he still has 2 or 3 decent years ahead of him . Denver , Houston , Atlanta could ne landing places ...And to those of you seeing him in Pittsburgh , i dont think so i think they need a QB not a power back.

There have been a lot of RBs done at 27-28 years old. They don't all make it to the proverbial 31-32 year old cutoff.

Any chance the Ravens hand the reins to Musa Smith, wasn't Billick calling him their running back of the future earlier.

I don't think changing RBs is starting over, as would be the case with, say, going with a rookie QB.

So are you saying Arizona should get rid of E. James as well?
