James Jones not tendered? (1 Viewer)

Many of my fellow Packer fans will tell you this. JJ is a really good player and he can be a great player at times making amazing grabs and then he can let you down with the easy drop. But after watching every game he has played in the NFL I can say that he is not going to be elite...he will not be a number one...if things break right he could be a nice number two WR for a team that has a great #1 WR and a Stud TE and/or RB...basically if he is the 3rd or 4th option a defense is thinking about he will/should succeed...as the #1 or 2 option for team he will not. You never come away after watching the guy saying...WOW, he is going to be great. Instead it's...he's pretty good...nice player...there is nothing wrong with that...but I think he thinks he is more than that...for his sake I hope he proves me wrong.

Getting pretty raw in here. With a decent QB Jones could easily be a 1,000 yard guy on another team. And looking at who will be available (sometime) in free agency I don't see many WRs I'd rather add (saying this with the expectation that V. Jackson and Holmes are retained). I'd rather have Sidney Rice, but after that... Santana Moss? Sims-Walker? I dunno, I'd take Jones.

He stated Jones had qualities that could make him elite IF he held on to the ball. Now of course that's a big IF and he stated as much.
Jones will never ever be elite. How about he shows he's a freaking starter first, eh?Playing the IF game
Right now he is behind some very talented starters, so complaining about him not being a starter is BS.
And he had a chance while Driver was dinged most of the year....and didn't make the most of it, getting bypassed in the process as well.Someone will pay him to be their #2 WR. I think he's a sell high when that happens. I don't think he's an NFL starting WR :shrug:My bet is he signs with a lowly franchise for too much $$ and falls flat on his face as a starting WR & no longer with that franchise w/in 2 years.
I could see that happening. He had his chance with Driver being hurt all of last season and part of this season and really didn't step up in any noticeable way. His concentration lapses a lot. He's got good RAC skills.
Nelson had a big Super Bowl, but he has yet to prove he is no more than a very good slot option for the Packers. Like many Packer games the Super Bowl showed that they have superior depth at WR compared to most teams depth at DB. Nelson took advantage of his matchup.Driver has been in and out of the lineup, MM has mixed and matched his starters based on gameplan.Jones could very easily suck when he gets big money from another team. That team wont have the talent the Packers do and hurt Jones when it comes to coverage, who is throwing the ball, and other factors with the team. Look at Larry Fitzgerald change of QB killed him. Jones could go from Rodgers to Colt McCoy and what type of numbers are people looking for and are they realistic.

I think he's better than that-not a #1 but not a #3 or 4 either. He has lapses of attention and may just need a coach that can work to change that. I'm not really sure what's wrong with his lapses in concentration. He may need to go to another team, but originally they drafted him because they liked him in close to the LOS due to his RAC prowess, but have used him a lot out wide and maybe slot receiver would be better. Now they have a RB coaching receiversDriver, Jones OK With A Former Back Coaching ReceiversPosted by Kareem Copeland March 8th, 2011, 6:53 pmThe Green Bay Packers lost just one position coach to another team in the aftermath of winning Super Bowl XLV – a significant positive for the organization considering how many of their names came up as candidates for jobs in other cities.WR coach Jimmy Robinson took the same job, with an assistant head coach title, in Dallas. Again, the Packers were somewhat lucky. The top four Packers receivers are all veterans. Losing a coach working with rookies and young players could have had a larger impact.Running backs coach Edgar Bennett was reassigned to receivers coach. Some wonder how a former running back that has only coached that position will fare with the wideouts?“I think Jimmy chose the best opportunity for him,” Donald Driver said Monday night. “We miss him as a receiver group, but we all have to move forward. We all have a job to do. We know what Edgar Bennett (brings).“Edgar Bennett has won a Super Bowl. Now we’ve won a Super Bowl. EB has two. So now we have to get two to match his two. But then he’s going to end up having three. So, it’s going to continue.”“Crazy part is when I came here, E.B. was in Chicago. That just shows how much of a relationship we’ve had with one another. We have also talked and let each other know exactly what we feel. I know he’s going to bring something better to us and we’re going to get better as a group.”James Jones had similar thoughts.“I think we can (listen to a former running back). We’re a coachable group. I know Edgar is going to push us to the max. He’s a great coach. I’m sure he’ll get a lot of knowledge from a lot of receiver coaches, so he’ll be well prepared to coach us during the season.”

Two things...first a slot WR is usually a #3 and Jones as a #3 for a team...well we saw what he can do. Probably one of the best #3's in the league. Secondly, I was reviewing some Packer games this year specifically to watch Jones again...I figured I was just pissed off remembering the drops...Jones is very good when he is focused and almost angry. I am going to back off a bit saying in the right situation, with the right coaching he could be a good to very good #2. The dude is like a tank...hope we can hold onto him...if the price it right.
