It was only assault, not battery. He's unlikely to be charged. I say 4 games, reduced to 2.Foolish to put himself in a position where his fiancee would be derided. Certainly if he'd picked a classier fiancee this never would have happend.

I read every word of it. It was pretty clear that second part wasn't genuine, or he wouldn't have started the topic in the first place.And even if it was, thinking that this is something that anyone ELSE would call for disciplinary action for still puts this guy way out of touch with reality as to how big of a deal (read: none) this actually is.

Pro athletes have way more to lose than Joe Barhopper ... so, yeah, pro athletes in 2010 HAVE TO turn tail and back down (which it sounds like Allen ultimately did). They've got to be mentally/emotionally prepared to look like "the little ***** that couldn't stand up to Joe Toughguy" in public ... but then be satisfied that they get to go home to that hot gf/wife and that huge house and that fat paycheck.Looks like some low-scale class warfare is going on. The gulf between athletes and fans has never been wider.
Empty threat -- it would have been from a prison cell. Allen did the right thing for his career in the end by walking away. No conceivable VERBAL insult is worth multi-millions.
