I'd like to hear what the latest is on Jarrett Johnson. Is he still in line to take over from Adalius Thomas? Are their any rookies like Antwan Barnes who might split time with Johnson or eventually take over Thomas' role in Baltimore?

What's your take on this situation?

Currently in my IDP leagues Johnson is listed as a DL and in our scoring system projects as a top 10 DL. I'm planning to draft him late but just want any headsup on his situation that I should be aware of because currently to me he seems to be this years Bryan Thomas.

He's the replacement - on paper. He has more value as the off-position type (playing LB, listed as DL) than anything else. The Ravens are actually high on two rookies - Preston Burgess and Antwan Barnes. I seriously doubt JJ is a 3-down guy as well. The sleeper guy is Barnes.

Agreed. Posted my thoughts in the other thread about Barnes. He & Burgess are both better NFL prospects than JJ IMO. I expect one of them to get Thomas' spot at some point this season. Both are worth flyers in deep leagues, but be patient - this D is extremely complicated & it may take a while for a rookie to learn it. I'm banking on Barnes, but Burgess wouldn't shock me either.

Ravens LB Barnes carted off field

Rookie leaves practice with apparent ankle injury

By Edward Lee | Sun reporter

8:01 PM EDT, August 15, 2007

Ravens rookie linebacker Antwan Barnes' second ankle injury in two weeks does not appear to be as serious as initially feared.

Barnes was carted off the practice field today after apparently re-aggravating the same right ankle that he twisted Aug. 1. But by early evening, Barnes was walking around inside the team hotel and putting weight on the ankle, which was heavily taped.

Barnes, a fourth-round pick in the April NFL draft, went down while attempting to get past rookie offensive lineman Marshal Yanda during a pass-rushing drill on the field furthest from the grandstands at McDaniel College.

Lined up against the right side of the offensive line, Barnes burst up field with a move to the inside before trying to slip to the outside against Yanda. Barnes then fell forward and lay on the turf for several minutes while the team's medical staff rushed to treat him.

Barnes stood up with some assistance from the trainers and clutched his right ankle while being carted off the field.

"Hopefully, it's nothing serious, and he'll be back soon," defensive coordinator Rex Ryan said.

Barnes, who recorded two tackles and a sack in the Ravens' 29-3 win against the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday night, had been drawing rave reviews for his pass-rushing ability and played with the first-team defense on passing downs.

hopefully Jeff will know this......was Barnes the guy who tried to lay out Sav Rocca on a punt return. Being an aussie, that made the sports news over here saying it was a cheap shot.

And the head of officials noted that he should have been given an personal foul 15 yard penalty.Your helmet cant touch the punter/kicker and you cant touch the kickers helmet when blocking on a kick. He did both. Cheap shot.
