Jason Allen, CB/S - Miami (1 Viewer)

He was the #16 overall pick last year, held out, and then played sparingly.

Was he hurt? Is he not the player they thought he was?

I've also seen where he's listed as a safety but now he's saying he wants to play more corner.

I realize he was brought in under Nolan, but would Cam flat out bench a guy that was a #16 pick?

Is he good enough to crack their starting lineup? And if so, can he be productive?

Basically, would you make room for him on your squad on a deep roster?

:D

Held out, missed too many reps in Saban's complicated secondary system. Played in some dime packages toward the end of the season, but didn't have a consistent impact. He should be good enough to play FS, but Renaldo Hill has been solid and it appears that they want him competing at corner right now. I wouldn't make room for him but he's worth keeping on eye on in deep leagues.

 But for the minutes he played he was putting up some decent numbers and he made a handful of outstanding plays. He is an incredible athlete and the potential is very high. I bolded complicated in the quote because I think Allen has some generic learning issues. I sat in a private chat with him last year, loved what he had to say, but was embarrassed by his writing. And it wasn't this new generation techno shorthand. He can barely write. I almost feel bad posting that publicly, but there you have it.

Once he learns a role completely, he's going to be an excellent NFL DB. His ultimate position will determine his IDP value, but his value to his real team is going to be very high. Unless, I guess, the learning issues ruin his career?

These are the kind of nuggets I love to read! Thanks to all of you for the info!

One more thing is that he was tried at both safety and CB as a rookie, was injured early, and did not get as much practice time as he needed. Lack of practice time for a rookie, especially in training camp, is critical. Think back to how many players miss camp, and their season is pretty much shot. This is one specific thing I look for in sleepers: 2nd year players who had some circumstances that would slow their development.

He is a talent and I agree that he is a player worth keeping an eye on.
