Jason Avant? (1 Viewer)

I caught a bit of the Philly game- Avant making some great catches. Didn't see him mentioned with the likes of a Dwayne Bowe or Roydell Williams in the Upgrades this week- should he be? Can he be a WR4 or WR5 this year?

In a redraft I'm not sure, though he's been the most productive Eagles wideout two weeks running. In a dynasty I picked him up last week and was pleased what I saw last night. Could be a nice long term WR.

After watching how ineffective Brown and Curtis have been as far as trying to get open, one has to wonder if Avant might get more playing time. He has been their best WR so far, and doesn't seem to have a problem getting open.

He makes a nice bye week or injury fill-in, but it would be a gamble to throw him in there ahead of other talented players. I picked him up in a couple leagues. The fact that Philly throws so much means he probably can get you 8 - 10 points a week, if that will satisfy you. He does make some nice catches, so he seems to have some upside. As far as Curtis goes, I see now why St. Louis opted for Bennett over him. He hasn't been terribly impressive working in the middle of the field.

I watched him a lot in college. He has good hands, he is smart, and he goes to the ball. He doesn't shy away from contact, he finds the seam, and he can make some acrobatic one handed catches. He does not have separation speed though, he is not a deep threat, and he is an unlikely red zone target. I'd compare him with Bobby Engram.

his first TD this season was a redzone catch  slant from the slot and boom, right in lol they tried doing that last night with curtis, would got popped and coughed up the ball

Great hands... when he played for Michigan... you knew where the ball was going on 3rd down. He'll never be a deep threat, but he should be a good possesion wr.

The Eagle 3rd WR has never been even rosterable. Avant's value is tied to his chances of beating one of the current starters. Last week I would have said no shot. Now...he looks like our best WR and desperate times call for desperate measures.

Thanks, fellas. I picked him up off waivers, only had to drop Randle El to get him. He's my last WR, so I can wait and see. I got DeShawn Wynn, too- with the 7th waiver pick. Not sure what the guys ahead of me were thinkin'.

Avant looks to be emerging while Reggie Brown is disappearing. Kevin Curtis is more of a slot receiver too. Avant's 3rd down grab on Monday seemed like an indicator that McNabb is looking for him to bail him out of trouble. I think is a great time to grab him before he gets hot.

Did anyone who watched the game notice when he was in? Was it 3rd downs only or is he the WR3 or even WR2? TIA.

Not sure, although the way they pass and how they having something of a "spread" offense or WC, I'd say he has to be seeing a lot more time than 3rd downs even as the WR3Im also considering dropping Tatum and picking up either Avant, Roydell, or DBowe...Tatum seems like he's worthless at this point, but these 3 WR's seem neck and neck to me at this point until one proves to be more consistent. I'd say Roydell is in the best situation since he's a WR1/2 with a better QB than Bowe, but if Avant is moved up the depth chart, I think he would surely post Reggie Brown '06 numbers or better (as long as McNabb stays healthy and returns to DMcN form)

What intrigues me is his reception percentage. He's only missed one ball thrown his direction (8of 9) while Brown has caught only 22% (3 of 14) of his passes and Curtis only 38% (6 of 16). And with that he has the team's only receiving TD. If you were McNabb who would you be looking for?

sad thing is he won't see alot of playing time, thats reids stubborn self.

even with the poor preseason and first two games brown has having, avant will see the same amount of time he has been.

its a shame that contracts control who starts rather then talent and production ( other wise kearse would be benched )

not even his reception %...if you seen some of the catches he made...granted they may be normal catches to other teams but hell..this is philly we talking about...that one sideline catch in the MNF game.....back to the sideline..defender in front of him..jumps up, plants his toes..knowing he is about to get popped...hauls it in

when you figure we had the likes of aligator arm pinkston and now avant...  :D i may be in the lone here but freddie mitchell could have been type of player if his ego didnt control him

Yea- that's what caught my attention. He gets open and he catches the ball. But, you're right, he'll likely be nothing more than a possession receiver as things stand today- he's not going to get alot of YAC or TDs.

:banned: :lmao: :lmao: Said everything I was thinking. I thought he looked like he had pro potential in college, but he doesn't have the breakaway speed. I would compare his football speed to a guy like Jurevicius, who'll be able to catch a long TD on rare occassions, but he'll never take a 80 yard slant to the house. In PPR he may be a player in the making, he has great football instincts.
