With Deshaun Jackson on the shelf this week, any thoughts as to whether Avant could make a good one-week play?

He did put up respectable numbers last week (5-62) and seems like he will take on a larger role this weekend as the Eagles try to exploit the Titans' secondary.

While it Could be a one-week story (Eagles have a bye the following week and Deshaun probably returns the following week), I'd be interested in hearing thoughts on Avant with all the injuries/bye week blues.

He's a solid possession receiver - won't stretch the field but can go over the middle well.5-6 catches, 60-75 yards and maybe a TD if they get into a Red Zone pass situation. He's a decent bye week fill-in, yes.

What if you are already starting Maclin and celek due to the bye-week? Is this a smart play?...especially vs Tenn defense?

Not to Highjack, but Patrick Crayton with the situation in San Diego would be a decent option this week also, IMO.

Fair enough, but doesn't have anything to do with Avant.

That strategy would be highly dependent upon Kevin Kolb, now wouldn't it? Also I think that would limit your TD production (can't see Kolb topping 3 TDs).Just saying that now your lineup would hitch 3 guys to Kolb - not sure I'd do that with ANY quarterback. Now, if your opponent has Kolb, it might be an interesting plan, but I would still not try and go "all in" with 3 WRs from the same team, especially one with a Top 15 RB.

Reason I would hesitate on Avant is that they plan to move him to wideout. Now Jason is one of my favorite eagles but he has a specialized role in the slot. He's not a burner and he's not a big physical guy to fight off the bump. He is an excellent slot guy though. If the Eagles kept him in the slot, then I'd say his value would be great this week with no Desean. since they plan to move him out wide, that may diminish his potnetial a little bit.

Could be good but I would probably look at other options first.

:( dead on right here.

I am not sold. Avant has been a steady target as the possession receiver, but really doesn't have the breakout skills that Jackson or Maclin have. Now what I am curious if Riley Cooper is a better play than Avant. Cooper had some tremendous catches in preseason and I think he may be more of the play than Avant. My 2 cents...

I agree - but the Eagles do intend to put Riley Cooper out wide in several 3WR looks and move Avant into the slot. The Eagles use a "bunch" formation (think "spread" but all minus splits - everyone is between the numbers on he field) where 2 receivers are to either side of the ball but none are > 5 yards away from the OT. They certainly know Avant's positives and negatives and will tend towards leaving him in the slot. Expect several personnel / alignment configurations (Celek out wide, McCoy motioning out, etc.) to make TEN adjust. The biggest plus for Avant is his Red Zone ability - he can get a TD pass over the middle in close quarters better than anyone on Philly (Celek is close).

Would you consider playing Avant this week or Meachem?

Avant was good last year when he came onto the scene for 2-3 weeks, but disappeared after

Cooper is someone the dynasty guys will want to keep an eye on. It wouldn't surprise me if Cooper is the one picking up the slack with Avant getting something closer to his regular numbers (4/50). Avant is still a relatively safe flex play, but I don't think his upside is all that high without a TD or two.
