Brandon picked the wrong guy to play junior GM with.Bills should have started discussions to get Peters a compromise deal for 2008 way back in Jan when the issue first arose.Pretty incompetent to play tough guy with their 1st bona fide LT since Wolford left 15 years ago. Edwards and Lynch will have a tough time since the Bills have no backup at either OT spot. There isn't a single shred of evidence that this is true other than some local tv station saying that they heard it's true. All reports are still that there has been zero contact from Paker (Peters' agent) or from Peters. No way the Bills cave. They're not going to negotiate anything until Peters is back practicing with the team. IMO, this thing is headed for an ugly standoff and Peters won't be back until Week 10.
I completely disagree. Peters was given a new deal when he was moved to the T position a couple of years ago. He has 3 more years left on the deal. It's not Buffalo's fault that his previous agent negotiated a deal with no large incentive clauses and that Peters was just fine with signing it. The only leverage Peters has is holding out until Week 10 each of the next 3 years and hoping that the Bills perform terribly in his absence. Frankly, that's not the type of guy that I want on my team.Caving in each time a player decides he wants a new deal just tells other players that they can get their way by holding out too. How many guys can the Bills afford to pay through the nose for? Where they really screwed up was giving so much money to Langston Walker. But that's not Brandon's fault. Are they going to pay Walker $8M a year, Dockery $6M a year, Peters $10M a year, Evans $7M a year, etc? The Bills have made it clear that they're willing to look into re-doing his deal, but that he needs to be with the team honoring his current contract before they'll do that. They're currently doing just that with both Evans and Crowell. Peters and his agent won't even TALK to the Bills. Screw that guy. He's not a team player at all. You need guys dedicated to the team to be truly effective in the NFL. If he's not back with the team by Week 4 or so, I hope the Bills trade him to a bottom feeder like the Raiders or Bears for a first round pick. Lynch will be mobbed this year (I am an owner). Without improvements in the passing game, he will have to get used to 8 in the box. Edwards needs to start getting his eyes down field a little bit more. With speed like Roscoe and Evans, there is no reason not to take plenty of shots trying to hit the big play.Lynch is gonna be such a BEAST this year. He's gonna get the majority of the carries, and he's 100% healthy. I believe that he's a top 5 RB. Jason Peters coming back is GREAT news for the Bills. THey really needed him this year.
Couldn't disagree more. Peters is probably the best player on the team and he's making peanuts. Give him some cash. If this was anyone else on the OLine I'd say screw you, but Peters is a young stud that is crucial to the team's success.I completely disagree. How is this any different from last year, with musical QBs no less. Buffalo ranked almost last in passing yards last year and Lynch still put up 1300 yards from scrimmage, in 13 games. Atleast the QB spot is settled going in this year and Evans may have a little breathing room if Hardy can take some double teams away. Plus they face a pretty soft schedule this year.Lynch has a nice shot at cracking the top 5 this year.Lynch will be mobbed this year (I am an owner). I'd like Jaworski to break down the film on how defenses attack this team because honestly, this is what the postgame interviews sound like every week:"Well we tried to take some shots downfield to Lee but they always had 2 safties back so it was tough"."Well we tried to establish the run but it's tough against 8 in the box". WTF? Which is it? Are we the only team that plays against 13 defenders?Lynch will be mobbed this year (I am an owner). BILLS' MURPHY INJURED (1:10 p.m. ET)The offensive tackle situation for the Buffalo Bills is getting shakier by the day.The agent for Matt Murphy says the offensive lineman has a partially torn left rotator cuff, but it will be another two weeks before a decision is made whether he'll have what could be season-ending surgery.Agent Kevin Fitzpatrick told The Associated Press that there's a possibility the rotator cuff could heal enough to allow Murphy to play and delay surgery until the end of the season.Murphy was hurt Monday during an 11-on-11 drill during a training camp session at Saint John Fisher College in suburban Rochester. Murphy had to be taken to a local hospital to be checked out.The Bills are already down to three tackles and Pro Bowl left tackle Jason Peters is holding out for a new contract.-- The Associated Press
The rumors are that Peters wants around $10-11M a year. And agreed, he's one of the best pass blockers in the league, but the run blocking needs some work.Peters is a great pass blocker but an average at best run blocker. I don't know what kind of money he wants, but I assume it is enough to make him a top paid o linemen in the league and I don't think he is worth that. Langston Walker got a lot of money, but he had a lot more leverage than Peters. Peters needs to prove he is a top run blocker before I am OK with giving him a huge contract. Plus, if the Bills cave in this situation, then next year there will be 2 or 3 guys that figure if Peters got a new contract by holding out, maybe they can get a new contract the same way. But if the Bills make an example of Peters then maybe no one holds out next year.
