JAX DT Stroud and DE Wiley OUT (1 Viewer)

Just wondering if Barlow is now a decent start either as a 2RB or Flex?

I know you guys will know.

Also, does this give the Jets a chance to win? JAX got torched by Washington, and while the Jets aren't on the same level, they have shown signs of life.

Good to know. I have Andre and Chad Johnson on bye this week, so maybe Cotchery isn't a bad start this week. I think the Jacksonville Offense will put up points, so Chad may have enough time to play well.

Matt Jones is out also. I don't know how much he will be missed, but I imagine that will also have some effect.

In spite of the success the Redskins had last week running the ball, the Jags biggest problem with all the injuries is generating QB pressure. It started with losing Reggie Hayward, easily their top pass rusher. Then they moved Rob Meier(their best pass rushing DT, seriously) to DE to sub for Hayward. Meier is much more effective rushing in the middle. Wiley was actually playing decently for a minute before injury. So now they are down 3 defensive lineman and at least two rookies(one 5th rounder and one undrafted) will be getting a lot of minutes.

I expect them to move Meier back to DT to sub for Stroud while mixing in a lot of Tony McDaniels, start Bobby McCray at the DE and mix in a lot of Jorge Cordova and Brent Hawkins.

My gut tells me that the Jags will attack the Jets poorly rated run defense to try and score early, control the clock and keep the hurting Jags defense off the field. If they have success with this the Jets will be looking to throw the ball more than run it. I'd say Pennington and WRs are better bets to produce than Barlow.

That's what makes this such an interesting question. If that is the Jags gameplan, then yes, I agree with your assessment. However, if the Jets get the opening kickoff (50/50), and go down the field and score. Maybe a early turnover for Jax and the Jets go up 10-0 or 14-0. You know that takes Jax out of that gameplan. Barlow is then a much better start than the WR's. I think the Jets have a good enough offense that this is a feasible scenario.

I'm not sure.... the Jets have a rather bizzare streak of no offensive TD's in the first quarter for EIGHTEEN straight games now. The last two opponents threw some unexpected looks at them, and while the Jets eventually adjusted in both cases, it took a while. Washington ran outside on Jax last week, and was very successful with that game plan. But now, with Stroud and Wiley out, they may test the middle, unless Meier is moved back inside.... then running outside may still be the right game plan if the Jax DE's fail to turn outside running plays back to the inside. Some 2 TE sets by the Jets would not surprise me here either, with Leon Washington's outside speed being a driving force in the offensive game plan. Mangold and Ferguson are better run blockers in space than they are in the closet running into the middle. On the D side, the Jets know their run D is soft. I think they will try to force Lefty to throw with 8, maybe even 9 in the box. The Jets often show a stacked box, and back off at the snap. I do think the loss of Jones and his deep speed threat is going to hurt the Jags here. Miller, while inconsistant, has the speed to stay with WR's going deep on him. I have a sneaking suspicion that this could be a break out game for Marcedes Lewis. One thing about this Jets team.... there is no quit in them. For folks looking for a blow out, I have to disagree. This is the kind of team that will be in every game they play, as they have so far.

A+ Thanks for this. Interesting tidbit about the Jets first Quarter TD hiatus. The Jets are going to get better. Thye do have the "fight" in them. I would not be at all surprised to see them steal this game and send JAX to their 3rd loss in a row.
