I re-watched that last drive from yesterday again and again...Cutler just zips the ball in their like a young Favre....he looks like the next great gunner...what an arm!

That arm isn't gonna do him much good unless he cleans it up a little bit and cuts down on the mental errors. Almost cost the Broncos the game a couple of times yesterday. He also just seemed very rushed and "jittery" out there and not very poised. I know it was the 1st game and I know he's still early in his career, but after watching him yesterday, he still has a ways to go to get a little polished and calm out there. Definitely has the physical tools and skillset, though.

I agree with both posts. A little erratic - that should ease with experience. But he can really zing it.

He has a cannon for an arm, and besides a couple of mental errors played very well. Experience should eliminate most of those mental errors. IMO Broncos got the best QB of the draft.

In one draft they got Cutler, B Marshall, Scheffler (who is still coming back from his broken foot), and Walker. That's nice.

Long time Bronco fan and I was just able to watch the game tonight (TiVo'd).

The lateral on the last drive wasn't as bad as it looked -- he was throwing to Young, it was just a bad throw. Great play by Young though.

Cutler's play on one play in the 4th where he was being sacked, but was able to keep composure and kept the play going for a while longer was exciting...that's how some of the biggest plays in Bronco history started. He was eventually sacked, but he didn't just curl up. Gotta love it.

Unlike gianmarco, I was very impressed by his poise. Particularly on the last drive. He nearly gave it away and Young saved his butt, but he came back and converted not one, but two 4th down conversions, then zipped the ball to Walker to set up the FG. Very poised, IMO.

Remember, this was only his 6th game.

I haven't been this happy about who the Broncos have under center in many years.

I think too much weight is often put on how hard a QB can throw as NFL teams can get enamored by arm strength; see someone like Boller's climb up the draft board in 2003, but geebus, Culter as an arm. With a cannon like that, he can potentially make throws that few NFL QBs can.

that's exactly how Favre started out. He's definitely a gunslinger and willing to take risks. Sometimes it will get him burned but he'll also end up making a lot of plays other QB's can't/won't. He's going to be an excellent QB.

Throw guys like Mike Vick and Byron Leftwich into this conversation, and there is even more evidence that this ability is overrated. I'm curious to see what kind of career Russel is going to have.

Just got thru watching the game on NFL replay. Cutler made the same kinda mistakes that Elway did early in his career. I still remember Elway being "rushed" and "Jittery". Don't get me wrong...Cutler is no Elway...but he is the next best thing. He made some very tight throws on that game winning drive. He reminds me more of a young Brett Favre. I loved it when Cutler threw those blocks on those option plays. You have to recognize his calm poised play on two 4th down conversions playing from behind with just under a minute to go. Very Impressive! If the game starts slowing down for Cutler (and I said "if"), everybody better look out. Cutler made a half dozen throws that Plummer would have choked on. With experience Cutler will eliminate those few bone-headed plays. Bottem line: if Plummer started Sunday the Broncos would have been beat.

I completely agree. And he's still very young and only on his 6th NFL start, so he's definitely allowed some leeway. I think the comparisons to a young Favre and Elway are justified, but whether he makes those improvements will be something to see. I would actually bet he does, just not as quickly as some would like to see or are expecting. And yes, he did look good on that final drive (much like Alex Smith did in his).
