Jay Cutler is a very good quarterback. Maybe you missed last night's pre-season game where he dominated the Giants secondary :excited:
Yea, look at how he lit up that scoreboard with a crooked number!

:lmao: You didn't even watch the game did you?

He made a throw to Hester on the sideline that only a handful of NFL QBs can make. Later in the same drive Hester tripped on what would have been an easy TD...then the next play dropped a pass right in his hands.

Cutler was fine - but he can't run out and catch his own passes.

I remember Derek Anderson looking GREAT one year. So what. Cutler is merely average, but the leaue has plenty of average -to-below-average QBs. His ego gets in his way. If he hits a bump in the road, his game starts to fall apart.

I have to say though, last week I almost spilled my beer when I saw him on the side line during the game looking at game photos and talking to Hanie. Maybe there is a bit of hope.

Cutler is not the Bears problem, far from it.

I would draft him as my QB2 if I had to

Well he definitely shouldn't be talking to the Miami Dolphins' quarterback in the middle of a game, even if it is just preseason.

Watched the first half and was in and out during the second. Only a handful? Someone has some big hands... Manning, Manning, Brady, Rivers, Brees, Schaub, Rothlesburger, Rodgers, Ryan, Flacco, Bradford, Freeman, McNabb... Jay did what he always does, put up great yardage numbers to wow the statisticians and fail to actually do anything significant that would actually win a game. Everywhere he goes, all his failures are always everyone else's fault but his own. Great QBs make other players good/great. A great Qb wouldn't be making the receiving corps look like the worst in the NFL, even if they are the worst in the NFL.

Interesting. Apparently you know much more about playing QB in the NFL than Ron Jaworski - you see, he's the one that made the statement regarding the fact that that throw could "only be made by a handful of QBs in the league." But you already knew that since you watched the entire first half. I would argue with several of the "strong arm" QBs on your list - but obviously I lack your QB achumen, as I don't even pretend to know more about the position than one who played it...well, that and I don't wont to totally derail this fine thread.

Nice to see that the smugly superior and insulting attitude isn't relegated to just the one post, its just who you are.Yes, Jaws and Gruden were up his a** all night telling us every play how great he is, and how much everything is everyone else's fault, and how they would have a sour look on their face too. And as long as an announcer hypes something up , its true! Lets ignore... every game Jay has ever played. Lets ignore Jaws himself breaking down just a year ago that Jay was responsible for 23 of his own 26 interceptions. Last night they said he was awesome while hyping the game that they were currently broadcasting.

Just for the record - are we also ignoring the games that made him a ProBowl QB in his 3rd season? And since when is presenting facts "smugly superior and insulting"? Or is disagreeing with someone now a sign of disrespect? I'm not the one who came into the thread with a one liner ripping a QB for not putting up points in a preseason game. :potkettle:

Keep up the fine work. Have a great season guy.

So... I came into the thread with a fact. How is that insulting Cutler? Your logic, not mine. Make your insults as backhanded and mocking as you want, they're still insults.Yes, Jay's 2008 season is another great example of how he puts up nice looking stats that don't lead to anything. He turned the ball over a ton, got a lot of garbage time yardage every week and couldn't win games.

And its not like the lack of scoring last night was some kind of new preseason fad. The Bears were 21st in the league last year in scoring despite having one of the top defenses and the best special teams, meaning they constantly had the field position advantage. And do we even want to get into how many red zone interceptions he throws?

He is a bad QB, yet we gave up 2 firsts, a third and a starting QB for him. I'm hardly going to be impressed because an announcer came up with a few compliments during a preseason game.

Gruden slobbers over just about every player in every game. I am still  at him calling Earl Bennett a tremendous Chicago Bear.

As for Cutler, he is still an average NFL starter (meaning he is probably about the 14th-18th best starter in the league), and as long the Bears don't get him a line that can protect him well, or receivers that can catch the ball consistently, he'll never become the very good NFL starter that many still think he could be. He was on the verge following '08, but took a step back in '09, and was a little better last year, but still needs to be more consistent.

Try not to buy into the in-game commentary.... or any commentary along those lines for that matter..

He also said it was a frozen rope 50 yards down the field. It was a 37 yard pass and Cutler was not 13 yards behind the LOS.Also, that pass did not seem too difficult for only a handful to make it.Looked like a pass you have to make against cover two (over the corner, before the safety gets over).I have seen more than a handful of QBs make that throw. That and those claiming he hit him perfect in stride and Hester should have scored...watch it again, Hester has to reach back for it and doing so it puts him slightly off balance to where he goes out of bounds rather than being able to keep running straight or make a cut to avoid the safety that is coming over.

:goodposting: nice throw, but classic Jaws hyperbole on that play ETA: my guess it did probably travel 50 yards when you take into account going from the middle of the field to the sideline

Traveled 50 yards maybe...but stating it was made 50 yards downfield makes it sound a bit different.
