Regardless of what anyone thinks of Bobby Fischer, Schapp attacking him from his bully pulpit was highly unprofessional and decidedly non-outstanding. He should have recused himself from that story altogether, and it's a microcosm of the self-aggrandizing reportage he's done since. This morning in his feature on A-Rod, he attributed A-Rod's drop off in May to "the baseball gods" exacting their revenge on him for his hubris. It was classic, pompous J. Schapp blather. And it annoys the living hell out of me.
And that's another thing I hate about Schaap (and Jim Gray, who was mentioned earlier in this thread). They seek out people they know are emotional, and then prod them with inane questions until they get the reaction they want. It's not that different from paparrazzi harassing celebrities until they blow a fuse.
