Jerious Norwood: Sell High? (1 Viewer)

There has been some off-season speculation that Warrick Dunn's role will be reduced, possibly to a third down back, in the upcoming season. Taken on face value, this would mean a boost for Norwood dynasty owners as Norwood did very well in limited duty this season.

However with the addition of Bobby Petrino, there's been a lot of speculation that there will be a RB philosophy switch from the scat-back type to a power-type running game. I haven't seen Norwod play a lot, but he's is obviously not regarded as a power back type (even though the highlights I have seen looks like he runs pretty tough).

So, I'm wondering if this off-season, specifically before the draft and a potential big-RB pick by Atlanta, is a time to unload Norwood while he still appears to most as the heir apparent to the coveted Atlanta rushing powerhouse.

I'm keeping him. But ofcourse if you could get a blockbuster deal for him in return, then by all means yes, trade him away. I'm not afraid of the rumors of them bringing in a "power back". Like Bush is a "power back". The guy is having difficulty healing from a terrible bone injury. He had questionable abilities as it is.

From what I've seen of Norwood, he runs with plenty of power. I didn't see him going backwards after any hits and he isn't afraid to lower his shoulder and finish the run.

Besides, Dunn had several productive seasons splitting time with Duckett and where is Duckett now?

Its all speculation at this point. I think Dunn only has 1 year left on his contract. It really depends on the draft. If Petrino takes a big back fairly early both current RBs stock will bottom out. Drafting M. Bush will probably hold them for a year as his recent surgury would put him a year away from being an impact.

If they don't take a RB, then I would think Norwood will be the man this year at least.

If I were to sell Norwood, it would be before the upcoming draft in case Petrino decides to bring a third bigger back into the mix

i'm mad because i was planning on trading him and the 1.6 pick to try to move up. and now all this. this is rediculous. dunn will be the go to back in atlanta this year. show me some links that gives me a quote stating that dunn could be relgated to backup or 3rd string this year. i searched the forums and found nothing!

Petrino's comments about wanting a big back came on Feb 26th, on March 2nd atlanta signed the 6'1 255lb ovie mughelli to a six year deal, they aren't gonna draft another guy. As far as dunn's role goes he's 32 so it's just a matter of time before he becomes a non factor. All in all I think it's a mistake to get rid of norwood now

Except Norwood is bigger, faster, and better than Moats. The worst speculation here is surrounding Mike Bush. This is pure media fascination b/c Petrino coached him. Bush is lucky if he's a Day One pick anymore with the latest complications with his leg. If anything, Petrino is known for being able to spread the ball around well, so I don't think any single back will be a great value regardless, but Norwood should see more work regardless of the other players in the backfield.Of course, expecting great success of anyone on that team is built on the shaky foundation that Petrino can be the rare top college coach to make the jump and not be a complete failure. I expect one of Petrino or Vick to not come out of this as a Falcon in two years.

He starting getting nagging injuries on very limited touches. He has the body of a WR. His legs are paper thin. MJD's one leg equals both of Norwoods.He's a home run type guy. Yes I know he's tough. I love the guy actually. But 300+ carries? That's an extreme stretch to me. And Bell is fairly similiar. Home run threat, questionable durability carrying the load. A great RBBC on the backup end. I've seen every ATL game this past year, and yes I was screaming for more Norwood. But he just has a horrible frame/body to be an NFL RB. He has the heart, but I'm not sure his body will let him.

I think most unbiased fans see a RB change in Atlanta - whether it change to a more even split between Dunn/Norwood or Norwood taking the reigns or Atlanta bringing someone else in through the draft.

Dunn's value is slipping quickly, and I don't think he's in the league in 2008. He might be a backup if he wants to take a pay cut, but Dunn has one year left, and anyone expecting big things from him are dreaming.

Petrino has had Eric Shelton and Michael Bush pretty much back to back at Louisville, so the easy specualtion is that that's what he wants in ATL.

It is all speculation now, but there's reason to be concerned, they changed coaches, offenses, and O-line coach as well. Will they still be running the Gibbs zone scheme?

warrick dunnis not the biggest guy around either and he has done pretty well for himself in this league. and as far as legs being thin, this was discussed in another post, marcus allen and the juice had toothpicks for legs. body types mean nothing. it all falls on the individual players

Exactly what i feel too. He is tougher then Bell and can get SOME of the tough yards, but Norwood will only be valuable in yardage leagues...I just don't see him scoring a many red-zone TDS.

I was frankly very surprised that Atlanta is picking up Dunn's contract for this season. Norwood for me isn't going to have much value in 2007 barring an injury to Warrick. And if Atlanta drafts a RB, his value is highly in question in regards to the 2008 season as well.

The guy runs very well, but I don't know if Atlanta has him in mind to ever become a featured RB on their roster. Norwood's value is either going to shoot way up or way down after draft day depending on who they pickup and where. I don't know that I would trade him now, considering his value is already surpressed for 2007 with Dunn there.

The biggest concern I have, is today I read that Petrino wants to move away from the zone-blocking scheme to a more straight forward blocking scheme. If that's the case, I feel that Norwood's long-term value decreases, because I see him more of a one-cut/cut-back style more suited for the zone-blocking.

This makes defenses play the run honestly and should help Vick(Lord knows he needs it) as far as not having LBs cheat into coverage. But I felt like this last year as well and ATL didn't ever pass for much(150 yds a game I think).

I've always thought the opposite about Vick - he needs a big bruising back who will wear down defenses so it's harder for them to chase Vick late in games. I don't know if that's right, but I watch as many Falcons games as I can and it never seemed like Dunn was able to tire out the defenses the last couple years. As disappointing as Duckett was, my feeling is that he made Vick more effective.

Agreed. The talk of a power back makes no sense either as they traded Duckett when they had him. It seems like they would rather have the threat of a big play at RB instead of a plunger. This makes defenses play the run honestly and should help Vick(Lord knows he needs it) as far as not having LBs cheat into coverage. But I felt like this last year as well and ATL didn't ever pass for much(150 yds a game I think).

That was the old coaching regime. There's a new sherriff in town now and of course he will think his way is the best way.As a Norwood owner myself, I hope they stay with Dunn and Norwood, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if Petrino starts bringing in his college boys.

On the other hand, Bush (should he end up in ATL) could be a great compliment to Norwood. Just like Dunn and Duckett.

But I hope Norwood gets some chances at the goalline and not just having to run them in from 80 yards.
