Jerome Harrison done in Cleveland? (1 Viewer)

Hillis has been coughing it up way too much as well.
Well Hillis didn't fumble last week and this isn't really about fumbling its about Harrison finding his way back in Mangini's doghouse. Harrison will not be active Sunday! You can quote me on that. The main beneficary is most likely going to be James Davis anyways. I would expect Hillis' role to stay the same or increase slightly.
With all due respect, you are the one that quoted Mangini on ball security, so it is an issue or you cited an irrelavent quote. One way you get into the doghouse as a RB is to fumble; something both Hillis and Harrison have done. The difference is Hillis didn't go running his mouth about not getting enough touches (criticism of Mangini) and then do little with them when they came his way. Harrison isn't talking much because he made his beef public, got his way, and then didn't do what he implied he would do with them. So he looks like an ### or an idiot and he knows this.

Davis is going to get carries because the guys in front of him are underwhelming. It's the same reason a crappy starting QB gets pulled in favor of a just as crappy back-up QB.

When things are going bad, doing something/anything is better than doing nothing. When you do something, at least you are pro-active and you get some credit for trying to get better. You may not know what you are doing, but at least you are doing, which means you may luck into something. On the other hand, we define insanity as doing the same thing over again and expecting a different result.

If Harrison is out I think Hillis will get a huge amount of carries. I cant see Mangini trusting Davis to run much against the ball stripping Ravens D.

We aren't really disagreeing here. What I am saying is Mangini is using Harrison's fumble as his latest excuse to put him back in the doghouse. Does that make it irrelevant? I don't think so because I think Mangini publicly talking about job security was his way of justifying benching Harrison I just don't think it is the real reason he is being benched. Obviously no coaches like fumbles but if Mangini was high on Harrison he wouldn't bench him because of one fumble. Adrian Peterson up until this year was a fumbling machine. Would Mangini bench him? The bottom line is Mangini just doesn't like Harrison that much. He said if people fumble they won't play and Harrison isn't playing this week. Hillis fumbled in week one but still played the same amount in Week#2 and actually Hillis had a pretty good game. The ironic thing is Harrison has been pretty good at protecting the football in his career. Before this year he only had 2 fumbles lost in his career.

Harrison did not look good last week and Davis will get an extended look this week. I would expect Hillis to see the same amount of touches as he has been getting with maybe a slight uptick depending on how Davis looks or if either one fumbles I guess.

Not sure I agree with this. Hillis has been pretty solid so far in weeks 1 and 2.9/41/1 with 4/24 rec in week 1 (4.6 ypc)8/35/1 with 3/26 rec in week 2 (4.4 ypc)It's not Chris Johnson material, but those are hardly underwhelming performances. In fact, he looked quite good running and ran like a tank at the goalline when he punched it in.

C'mon just give Hillis a chance... it'd be great to see a white RB succeed! Who was the last one, Riggins?

Harrison was the offseason darling of many who were fooled by his end of season stats. Stats created by attrition in the RB corps and ineptitude at QB, where it was decided to simply give a guy 106 carries the last 3 games of the year against bad run defenses and keep things simple. He has turned out to be fool's gold as many of us were predicting. He still has never learned how to block a defender and is nearly useless in pass pro, and he never has been or will be a feature back for any extended period. And, Mangini's job is on the line and he knows it. He's not going to play guys that cough up the ball and cost them points that result in 16-14 losses like last week, losing it on his own 23.He has no future as a featured back, in CLE or GB or anywhere else. He's a committee back at best, or a backup. Harrison owners, just accept it and forget the end of last year. It was a mirage.
So, you're telling me there's a chance?

Might be the best thing for Harrison is sitting out against Baltimore.

I think there's a chance Davis has value. He was looking really good in preseason last year before the season ending injury and there was a lot of talk at the time about him eventually getting the starting gig once J Lewis was done.

A year later Harrison's on the outs, Hillis has looked very good but it's hard to know how management really views him -- they had talked in preseason about him being a useful RB/FB role player and that's about it -- and maybe they'd ultimately like to keep him in such a role. Davis, if he is showing enough in practice, may well get a legit shot to be the main ball carrier.

We've seen with many, many previous situations that making assumptions about a team's RB pecking order based on what a depth chart says or what we've seen in a couple previous weeks' games is not always a good idea. Guys like Ryan Grant can be signed off the street and in a few weeks' time become long term starters. It happens. So there's a chance for Davis. He had a good career at Clemson (4-year starter and shared the backfield with Spiller in 08, 07, 06, getting more carries than Spiller in each season), had a good preseason last year, and is in just his 2nd season, presumably completely healthy. So why not him. It wouldn't shock me at all.
