I think we still have alot of season left before anyone can say something other than a hunch.Lewis has looked good enough to be a starting rb in the NFL, imo. If he stays healthy, I'm assuming he'll be looking for a multi-year deal somewhere. Tough to say right now if the Browns will be players if that is the case, especially at more than $5M/yr (I think that is about what his 1yr deal now is).I don't think Harrison or Wright will be the answer for Cleveland in the long run. If Lewis goes, they might have some limited success short term (probably Wright with Harrison as change-of-pace/3rd down RB), but I think they'll look for another vet to come in or possibly take a RB in round 2 or 3 of this year's draft (the defensive line also needs major overhaul via draft and FA).
I have been riding the Jerome Harrison bandwagon for a while. I was about to jump off until Lewis got hurt and Harrison got a few carries. Anybody else on that wagon?
I was big on Jerome when he came out and used 2nd round picks on him in 3 diff. Dynasty Rookie Drafts.
That being said Wright is better than I thought he was for sure. I fully expected Jerome to pass him on the depth chart rather swiftly.
So this season I told myself Jerome will lose his spot if he doesnt emerge before the next draft.
This off-season he added the muscle which was nice but again sat on the bench until JLew got dinged. Even with JLew hurt they have be conservative in opportunities to Jerome. Whether his pass blocking is in question or not, when on the field his numbers have been solid.
My prediction however looks bleak at this point.
If Jerome/Wright dont do something that tells Romeo they can be Rb1s before the 08 Draft, there only opportunities are going to be on other teams who give them a shot. Romeo, should be inclined to take one of the MANY Rbs coming out in the draft and just take care of his RB problem for sure. Hes spent alot of picks/pickups and money on the O-line to not have a perennial stud back, this would be "the Draft" to do it in.
The last two weeks the Browns rushed for over 160 yards against the Phins and then last week they ran for 130 yards against the Rams. Jamal was absent against Miami and wasn't 100% last week. The Browns have been successful in setting up the run with the pass and also they have quietly adopted a RBBC where Wright/Lewis/Harrison all play roles that mesh with their abilities. Jamal is the most talented and can be utilized in more offensive sets but a change has happened with the Browns running game and not many have caught on. Neither Wright nor Harrison look like they will contend to be 'thee guy' but Jam's position as 'thee guy' has slipped. He's now part of the dreaded RBBC but he has the biggest piece of the RBBC pie and if he's healthy at the end of the year the Browns have other pressing needs on the D-Line to fill before they'd make a switch at the #1RB position. I will say Jerome Harrison has done the most with his opportunities so he has the most upside but from what I see its the dreaded RBBC with Jamal Lewis taking the bulk of the carries, Harrions sneaking in with quick hitters and Wright coming in last to give Jam rest and as injury insurance but he'll never contend as a #1 RB.
