I have a chance to get him in a trade and wondered if anyone has heard much lately about him. I know he has an ankle injury, but will he make an impact next year?

Considering he did absolutely nothing due to inactives, and also competes with fellow rookie Andre Caldwell not to mention Chris Henry, it's hard to be very high on him.

The Bengals consistently stated this past offseason that Simpson was a raw prospect, so it's not too surprising that he hasn't contributed in his rookie season. Let's keep in mind that before this season, it was rare for a rookie WR to make an impact, and it doesn't necessarily mean a player won't develop in subsequent seasons.

He looked like a playmaker to me in the preseason, and as a 2nd round pick, the Bengals saw something they liked quite a bit. Since TJ will be a free agent, Chad Johnson will likely make another attempt to escape Cincinnati, and Chris Henry can't go a calendar year without being arrested, the opportunity for a move up the depth chart will almost definitely be there.

Yeah, I still think he's a guy to hold for all of these reasons. Dare I say, tremendous upside?

Just don't expect too much in 09. I think they resign TJ and Jerome has a chance at the #3 next year with a shot of making some noise and then moving up the charts in 2010. You have to factor in that some 'polished' WRs take 2 or 3 years to shine, I just think this guy has a ways to go yet. In fact, he is the type that you want another owner owning this year and next and then you make a deal for him when the frustration level builds and get him before he takes off. (of course you have to think he will take off first  )
