Jerry Porter. (1 Viewer)

I don't approve of Porter's actions but for whatever it's worth, it's looking more and more like he was 100% correct in his opinion of the Art Shell hiring. The Raiders don't have the players to be world beaters but they have enough talent on both sides of the ball to win ~8 games. It's just one game into the '06 season but considering the preseason, the handling of the Porter situation, trading Gabriel, and now a home opener where I'm relatively certain a 10 year old kid who plays Madden '07 on his Playstation halfway decent could have done a better job play calling, I have to rank Shell dead last among the 32 coaches. He was nothing special when he made his exit stage left what seems like ages ago, and taking his 1992 playbook out of moth balls definitely isn't the answer now. I've always disliked the Raiders but I almost feel sorry for them right now......almost.....and this is coming from a Bills fan.
The Art Shell hiring was a total FUBAR move by the Raiders organization; I do not understand the signing of Brooks and the release of Collins. Collins is what he is but Brooks is a waste and a step back IMHO.Porter was not liked by Gruden either and he sat the bench mostly when he coached there.Sounds like Portor might have problems with authority figures.

i think they might have to pony up and trade him and take the cap hit.
I thought if a player gets traded, the team the player is traded to picks up his salary. A team only takes a cap hit if they release a player. Is this incorrect?
The team that acquires him takes on his salary. The team that traded him takes the signing bonus as a cap hit. The signing bonus is spread evenly over the length of the contract. The unaccounted for portion of the signing bonus goes against the team's cap that traded him. For example, if a player gets a $1 million bonus for a 4 year contract, and is traded after two years, the team takes a cap hit of $500,000.

Thanks. MaddenNFL needs to update their game engine to reflect this. :football:

Oh no, they've already got it right. Make a trade in Franchise Mode, and you'll see your team's cap hit the following season. How do you think I knew any of this?

I hope Davis makes him rot the bench as an example to anyone else... that is he can get us a left tackle that knows how to block.
Maybe, as punishment, they should put him out on the field and let him play and get hammered like the res of the Raiders. Right now he gets millions and doesn't have to get brutalized like the rest of his teammates.

I was thinking the same thing, just have him run across the middle on every play, if he's open, throw it a little high.

Porter is gone if this has any truth to it

09/12 18:13 Raiders: Porter cheering against teammates?

The News

Wide receiver Jerry Porter, inactive for Monday's loss to the Chargers, was seen laughing and pumping his fist on the sidelines after Raiders quarterback Aaron Brooks was sacked for the seventh time on Monday, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.

Our View

Porter said the report was not true and that he "was not even paying attention to the game." Raiders coach Art Shell said it would be "disappointing" if the report was accurate. Porter desperately wants to be traded, but the Raiders' asking price is rumored to be a first-round draft pick. As the situation gets foggier in Oakland, it's clear Porter will be of no help to fantasy owners any time soon.

So only 1 guy in the whole world saw Porter laughing? Thousands at the game, millions watching on TV, and only 1 guy saw him laughing at Brooks being sacked? No pics?

Sounds fishy.

So, you heard a rumor and just had to run to the nearest message board in order to let the world know how disgusted you are with Jerry Porter?

Must be a slow news day at the ole Chronicle.

Jerry Porter-WR- Raiders Sep. 12 - 9:09 pm et

NFL Network's Adam Shefter reports that Jerry Porter asked NFLPA President Troy Vincent if he was required to show up to Oakland's game Monday.

Porter wanted to stay home when he found out he would be inactive for the game, but Vincent told him to go to the game. The Patriots rumors earlier Monday appear to be untrue and Porter is hurting his trade value with every moronic move.
