Jet Skiing rental questions (1 Viewer)

The Big Guy

Fear the Blitz
Going to be in Bermuda in May, wife wants to go rent some jet skis and I have never done this before. How tough is it to Jet ski, especially using generic tourist rental ones for a middle aged fat guy? I am wondering how tough it is to get back up onto one if you fall off while in the middle of the water.

I was taught jet ski are the ones you stand on

wave runner are the ones like you posted

so you should be fine

Oh I definitely plan on getting the one that works like a motorcycle on water. Of course, having never driven a motorcycle before, I would be just as screwed.

My daughter could ride one at 8. You should be fine.

What he said. Jetski's are what most places rent. The only way to fall off is going full speed and driving it like a jerk off which you will do after the first 10 minutes. It's inevitable. It's easy to get back on. Back passengers should keep their ### a few inches off the seat due to unforeseen waves/wake which will cause some serious turbulence to the crotch, taint, muff area.

Don't take turns too slow. Give it some gas when you turn. Odds are your rental will be a Yamaha VX110. Great skis and rock solid but a little tippy at slow speed. If you do fall off, you reboard from the back. There is a fold down boarding step. You use that and pull yourself up with the handle behind the seat.

Also if you fall off, don't flail around. There are copius amounts of sharks near Bermuda and you don't want to draw attention to yourself. Just calmly tread water until you can get back on. If one does happen to attack, DON'T PANIC. Despite popular belief they really don't like human flesh. Once they get a taste they will normally move on.

Most importantly, relax and have fun!

Unless they let you free roam, witch most places don't, you'll be bored after 20 minutes.

In fact you'll be so bored your only entertainment is going as fast as possible then jerking the handlebars sideways so it throws you off. You'll do this a few times or until you get hurt then you'll just ride around in circles until time is up.

Wrong, it's a brand thing. Kawasaki makes jet skis and Yamaha makes waverunners. They both offer multiple versions, the sit down version is just vastly more popular so its what you see more of now a days.
