Jets have Vilma on the block? (1 Viewer)

This was posted on a Lions board...i searched and didn't see a topic so thought i'd toss it out there. Any Jets homers have some insight?Personally, it actually seems like a very good trade scenario. Lions get Vilma and #25 and probably one of NYJ's 2nd rounders and they get the #2 overall. Vilma would be a beast under Marinelli!

Anyway back to Vilma. According to three radio reports in Florida the Jets have been shopping Vilma around before the combine. Both parties (Vilma & The Jets) agree he does not fit in a 3-4 defense and is too talented to be a rotational linebacker.#1) The Miami Dolphins approached the Jets and started talks to get Vilma. (to eventually replace Zach Thomas and play outside with Crowder untill then) The powers that be decided not to pursue.#2) Three days later the Jets and the Bucs initated talks. No one said who contacted who first. Shelton Quarles is 35 years old if the trade is pulled off would be a June 2nd cut. With the Plummer trade and Garcia signing nothing else has been reported on any (if any) further progress has been made.#3) Finally, during all this Vilma to a Florida team talks alot of speculation has been made. The two teams out their that run a similar 4-3 defense that Vilma would excel at are the Buffalo Bills and the Detroit Lions. Which put Detroit in the favored spot because no one could see the Jets and the Bills doing business together. The least the Jets would be willing to take would be: ( Detroit's 1st pick for Vilma and the Jets 1st pick ).

Jon Vilma is the kind of player you build a system around, not the kid of guy you trade b/c he doesn't fit your system.

That said, I did see where Washington was supposedly interested in him and I laughed it off. But their pick in the 1st might get it done. That would put the Jets in a fine spot to get Jamaal Anderson, Marshaun Lynch perhaps, or even Leon Hall.

As a Lions fan and Vilma owner, I'd love it.

As a reasonable NFL fan, I highly doubt it.

Vilma for the #2? Come on..
I'm guessing it would be Vilma/pick #25/something else for the #2 picknot sure how big that "something else" would have to be to make this work out.
 Simms and Vilma could be a pretty nasty duo. #25 would be a grat place to draft a top saftey, or a top tier pass rusher. Those are 2 positions this draft has depth at. Rod would thutn the D around very quick with 2 moves like that.

If the Lions could land Vilma, the Jets 1st pick and an additional 2nd/3rd/similar pick then I'd be ecstatic as a Lions fan. I suspect that this rumor is too good to be true though from a Detroiter perspective.
