Jets trade for Doug Jolley (1 Viewer)

Just thought I'd post the results of this trade which some people (Raidernation) considered rape by the Raiders:

Raiders get: Fabian Washington (traded Jets #26 [Chris Spencer] and #105 [Ray Willis])

Jets get: Doug Jolley, Mike Nugent (Raiders #47), and Cedric Houston (Raiders #182)

i stand behind my initial assessment:

why has jolley fallen out of favor? i thought he was productive when they threw him the rock.

I actually like what the Jets did here. move down 20 spots and pickup a starting TE who can catch the rock?

no brainer

Jets won that hands down, IMO.

Not quite. The Jets did not get Eric Moore. The Jets got #182 and #185 The Jets traded the pick they got from Oakland (#185 overall) to Jacksonville, along with their 4th rounder, for JAX's 4th rounder (the Jets moved up four spots in the fourth in exchange for a 6th rounder). With that fourth-rounder they selected Kerry Rhodes.

Also, Oakland had to trade up to #23 with Seattle, at the cost of a 5th-rounder, to get Washington. Oakland also made some moves at the bottom of the draft.

To me, you have to ask yourself whether the Raiders would have traded Justin Miller, Doug Jolley for Fabian Washington (putting aside the 6th rounders in the deal). If the Riaders had stayed where they were, presumably they would have gotten Miller.

Personally, I think it's a win-win. I don't think the Raiders were shopping Jolley, but it was convenient for them to deal him, given their depth. Thus, Jolley wasn't worth much to them. That the Jets wanted a TE, were located at the end of the 1st, and were willing to trade out of the first round was all fortuitous. The Jets were happy to have the flexibility to fill three positions of need with new starters in Jolley and Nugent, and a new starting return man in Miller, to say nothing of his CB skills.

I used the information off NFL.com which is apparently wrong. Even so, you have to think that the Raiders didn't gain much, if anything, from trading up. If Fabian Washington turns out to be a Pro Bowl CB, then this is a good trade for the Raiders. Otherwise, it's hard to deny that the trade favors the Jets. Getting Cedric Houston with one of the 6th round picks was a huge steal and could end up being their future starting RB.

Congradulations to Houston for having the Jets top 2 Rbs injured, and then managing less than 3 per carry against a bad run D,

I never said that I was predicting Martin and Blaylock to get hurt. Also the Raiders run D isn't that bad, especially not having to worry about the Jets' passing. My post was originally to point out that the Jets fared better in the trade than people first thought. I still think Houston can become the Jets starting RB next year, which would make trading their #1 pick a very good move.

There is no shortage of tools who love to say the Jets traded a 1st round pick for Jolley. Those who do are either ignorant or fishing. The Jets moved down about 20 picks in that deal, took Nugent, still got the guy they would have taken when the took Nugent in Justin Miller, and got a sixth round pick, Houston, who could well be the starting RB next year. I await the arrival of CalBear.
