Joe Buck: "Delhomme's Days in Carolina are Numbered" (1 Viewer)

Joe Buck just said that league sources indicate that Jake Delhomme's days as the Carolina QB are numbered, and that they will draft a QB next year. Anyone else heard anything about this?

I live in the Carolinas, and i've never had anything about Delhomme losing his starting job or being shipped out of Carolina. Sure, i could see them drafting a rookie just because they have NOTHING behind Jake, but to cut ties with him? HIGHLY unlikely IMO...

I expect a QB to be selected in the first 3 rounds, but I would expect it to be more of a competition selection vs. a heir apparent.

If Delhomme can find his 3rd down touch, there is no reason he shouldn't start for as long as he is able. A young QB might be the competitive spark to ignite that. But, if he can't, they definitely need someone to groom to step in sooner rather than later.

I think the most likely situation is a repeat of Denver last year. Carolina will probably take the 3rd-4th QB in the draft somewhere in the mid-first and go into the season with the idea of letting him sit behind Delhomme for a year or two. Still, Carolina has a lot of holes and may look at other positions.

I haven't heard anything about Jake's days being numbered. If any Panther job should be in jeapordy it should be the OC. The playcalling has been awful.

If Hugh Jass stops by this could get ugly.

Joe Buck needs some kind of hair work....plugs, transplants, swooping....

I ignore eveything he says because of his dorkish appearance. And they say fat grils are on the same playing field as the hotties.......riiiiiiiiight.

I don't think the qb class will be as good next year. I could see them going after a free agent though.

just watch out for Amanda Huggenkiss :(

C. Weinke 18/28 170 0 1

in a 37-3 loss.

Joe Buck must've gotten the name wrong. Looks to me like Weinke's days are numbered.

I don't know about Delhomme leaving, but I do hope Carolina looks for a QB in the draft.

Weinke is NOT the answer at QB. Zero mobility to try to avoid any pressure.

And Bri is right on. Carolina has no depth at any position, let alone skill position.

Pretty sure they'll grab a QB in the first round... which one though?

This is a team that should be winning now. They don't want to have to wait for a QB to develop. Delhomme has regressed and I'm not sure why. I'm sure that a good receiving TE would help, but he has plenty of receiving targets as it is. What veteran QB might they acquire this offseason if they conclude that Delhomme is not the answer?

Ramsey should be available, but I don't know if that's a step up. Leftwich might be available, but I think it would be foolish of the Jags to let him go. Isn't Shaub a free agent next year?

There used to be talk of Simms leaving the Bucs, but after the Gradkowski experiment I'd think he stays.

Seneca Wallace?

Delhomme's regression is due to being locked in on Steve Smith. Anytime a big play is needed, you know hes going towards Smith. That worked great last year but eventually teams figure it out. He's been figured out.

Delhomme has led them to a Super Bowl and two NFC Championship games. He has had a bad year, but it's not all his fault. The offensive line never got it together after losing some key players at the beginning of the season, the running game hasn't been great, no quality TE, and the playcalling has been horrendous. They lost seven games this year where they had the lead up into the 4th quarter. Some of the playcalling in the 4th quarter this year, and 3rd, has been terrible. There has also been more dropped balls this season versus other seasons, and the D seems to collapse in the 4th quarter (but some of that was due to turnovers by the offense). I think Jake is fine as the QB, and the whole team has been disappointing this year.

 After the Philly loss, their were many posters calling for Delhomme's head and begging for Weinke. I just don't get it. Delhomme is the same gunslinging QB that got Carolina close to a Super Bowl Victory and to the NFL championship game in the past three years. He makes great plays and some boneheaded ones. He always has. Is he having a bad year, yes. But to discard him based upon that is ridiculous. And for an unknown, unproven rookie. Come on. The Panthers need a QB, but its a backup. Weinke has always stunk. Carolina fans are quick to point fingers at Delhomme, but the Defenst has not been nearly as stout as in the past. Delhomme did not let Pittsburgh score 37 points nor did he let the Garcia led Eagles drive the field for the go ahead points. But I guess its easier to blame Delhomme then the great defense led by Peppers.

I read this today:

He was asked if he had heard host Joe Buck's comment from the Fox network's NFL pregame show Sunday, suggesting Terry Bradshaw had inside information that Delhomme might be finished with the Panthers, and that Carolina would try to draft a quarterback. Delhomme said he had not."I hope (Bradshaw) doesn't become the head coach or the GM over here," he said, smiling. "But honestly, when things aren't going well ... there's going to be a lot of talk. But, I can't control that. I truly believe I'm going to be here."Carolina coach John Fox emphasized that point Monday."There is absolutely no validity to that (report) at all," Fox said. "If we had Jake healthy now, he'd be out there now, and it would be the same to start next season. There are no quarterbacks just behind the bushes out there at this point or even this time next year."Fox's reaction to the pregame show comments? "Shock. Disbelief. Absurdity," he said.

There is no way that Carolina drafts a QB in the first round. Safety, DE, and MLB are their pressing needs. They may try to get a better backup than Weinke, but Delhomme is the QB at Carolina next year.

It was sooooo stupid to re-sign Morgan and let Witherspoon go. Their agent earned his money for sure.
 The offense has also been so off kilter since day 1 with their O-line injuries. I'm not sure what direction they should go in the draft, but QB probably isn't one of them (I'd get the best O-lineman available). More than anything their running game has been atrocious which puts them in bad down and distance situations. Their defense has been decimated by injuries from Morgan (who they should have seen coming) to their CBs and now Rucker. They can stop the run, but they seem to get picked apart on 3rd downs. Frustrating season
