did anyone see the saints game and could they tell me about joe horn.

did he looked washed up or was he just not getting looks?

and was it because he was well covered or was it because brees just didn't look his way or is it because brees is still recovering and doesn't have the arm strength yet to throw it downfield at all?

is there any hope for horn?

i don't want to overreact to one game but i'm just curious what peoples impressions were of the guy.

As near as I could tell, Horn just wasn't open. Also, Payton wasn't calling for downfield throws to Horn, as the running game and short passing game was pretty wide-open up until the goalline on most downs. Horn got more involved in the offense in the second half, as Payton had said he would at halftime - I would guess that Payton's going to start getting him the ball more now that there are fullback problems.Additionally, though, this rookie 7th-rounder from Hoffstra (Colston) was doing a tremendous job getting open on the intermediate routes and Brees was underthrowing people. It's possible Brees will have to play Pennington-style for a couple weeks until his arm strength gets back to normal game-level (sure he can chuck it 50 yards already, but can he do that for 25-30 passes per game yet? I think that's probably not the case). My personal analysis (and take it for what it's worth) is that Horn will start picking up around week 3-4 and by 6-7 will be getting the production that people expect from Joe Horn. As Brees builds strength, Horn will become more and more of a factor, though that might change if Colston continues to develop. The kid's 6'5 and huge, so he's also going to be a good option if he keeps making progress.

he was done last season... i'm shocked people still drafted him as early as they did this year. i guess it was on name value/reputation alone.

Ignorant statment considering he was hurt all year. I guess Galloway is done too?It is only week one. Let's see over the next 3 weeks how Horn does before declaring him done.

He wasn't done last year - he was injured. Now, it is possible that he hit the wall and won't come close to his past production, and week 1 was not pretty, but you have to give it a bit more time before making such a decree.Regardless, last year, between katrina and his injury is something you need to discount for the most part with one caveat - at his age, it is possible that Horn never gets back to his elite, pre-injury year level.

I agree it's way too early to write off Horn. We've seen several WRs be productive well into their 30s, and Horn is as hard of a worker as there is.

All that said, there are a few meaningful factors working against him - new offensive system that no longer runs through him, plus the absence of a QB that did nothing but lock into him.

It's because the Saints get the ball to Reggie Bush on almost every single play. If he isn't running the ball, they are throwing screens to him.

I don't think he's done but I do think Lauren's point about where he was drafted has merit. He went a lot earlier in my draft than I anticipated and I think it was, as Lauren said, due to his rep. I was targeting him as a value pick but it never happened because he went about 2 rounds sooner than I anticipated.

The defense was playing to keep everything in front of them. The under routes were open the long ball and sidelines were not. This sometimes happens. If it continues I'd worry until then I wouldn't do anything drastic with Horn.
