Joe McKnight Murdered (1 Viewer)

He was threatened bodily harm, so shoot him dead.  Makes a boatload of sense.  You're off the rails man.
I'm not as far on board with concealed carry laws as Stealthy, but...if someone is threatening me with bodily harm, I don't think I want to wait till they are already inflicting it before deciding to defend myself...

We'll likely never fully know what transpired, but it seems safe to say that there are a minuscule number of instances of bodily harm inflicted and far less deaths in situations in the middle of an interection when (lets assume McKnight was out of his mind with road rage) a road ranger gets out of his vehicle and approaches yours.  Just stay in your ####### vehicle with the doors locked, drive away, call the cops, or all three.

Or, ya know, just blast someone.  Just in case.

I'm not anti-guns, but the logic behind some posts in here is downright C R A Z Y.

Wasn't addressing the specific situation...I don't feel like I have enough information to make a snap judgment on that.

Just the general principle of defense vs. threats of bodily harm.

Fair enough, though this thread is about a specific situation.  One in which the use of a gun is seemingly being defended.  And you're right that without the facts, it's hard to judge.  I just don't see how this guy gets to a point where he feels that his best option is to not only open fire, but to shoot multiple times at someone until they're dead.

And they are laws and rules and rulings - not Constitutional Rights .... but that said there are many regulations on buying a gun and ammunition too even though clearly the 2nd says " shall not be infringed upon "

Do you know how often gun owners stop crime? Armed police on campus is a new thing and thank God we're changing it. Gun free zones are like a magnet to crazies ... that's why they attack schools. We protect everything that is valuable in this country with weapons ... except our children in schools and our young people in universities. How idiotic is that ? So yes it is absolutely relevant to say that more guns = less crime, be it in the hands of civilians or campus people or police etc.

If guns were not handy - police wouldn't use them. Police have no more of a right to carry than I do - and in fact, since police almost always reactive to crime vs being proactive to it .... it just makes sense to conceal carry and protect yourself. If someone threatens my wife and family tomorrow at the local grocery store, I can defend myself and them. Can you?
Why do I get the feeling this would go down something like this?

*Stealthycat heads to express line with 12 items*

Customer: Hey man, this line is for 10 items only.

(Stealthy ignores him)

Customer: That's not cool.  You have twelve...

BANG!

Stealthycat: Never threaten my family.  That's why I carry! (Steps over dead man)  Oh, I have a coupon for the frozen dinner.

That's what you are supposed to do yes. Shooting someone is your LAST resort, always.

we won't know what happened until later - already conflicting reports and I was wrong, the shooter Gasser is white, McKight black and this isn't headline news.

Both Gasser, who is claiming self-defense, and his father, Ronald Sr., have histories of traffic run-ins, with at least 13 offenses between them dating back decades, according to records reviewed by the Daily Mail.

if the above is true, and there is a a pattern, and the witnesses stories all come together this might very well be manslaughter for Gasser. Truth will come out with it being in traffic and intersection and cameras etc ..... if he's guilty, death penalty would be fine by me.

Gasser was charged with manslaughter, which doesn't make sense. I don't think the average person is killing someone under those circumstances. It should have been a murder charge.

again ... Constitutional Right - 2nd Amendment .... upheld multiple times  by the Supreme Court individual Right to have guns and carry them and a Right to defend myself and nobody can say when I'm threatened but me - same as a police officer. Liberals swore Texas would become the wild west when carry laws were passed. Nope - didn't happen, crime went down, road rage incidents exceptional rare and no more than before.

I'd bet my savings the McNight man will not be charged, that McNight was threatening him harm and it was self defense. I would be very hesitant to kill anyone, however if I ever need to defend myself from bodily harm it will be better for me to have that option than not. People who don't carry, women who don't .... they get murdered, raped and they have no defense against someone else who is bigger, has a knife, has a gun etc.

I hope tonight at church, at the movies, at the grocery store, at Wal-mart ... I hope everyone has a gun on them. If a crazy comes through the door, we'll get him down and minimize the damage fast.
We are all looking forward to splitting your savings.

This is so true.

It's just unfortunate that we literally have to be scared that every ahole is on the brink of putting a bullet into us or our kids or whoever.
Ain't the information (paranoia) age wonderful?  We get to here about every incident in real time damn near.

For those interested, lots of commentary and extracts re: Joe McKnight case from Jefferson Parish Sheriff Newell Normand's 12/5 press conference here.
