Joel Dreessen - BRONCOS (1 Viewer)

(Rotoworld) Broncos agreed to terms with TE Joel Dreessen, formerly of the Texans.Houston's free-agent exodus continues unabated. A fine all-around tight end, Dreessen has received high marks from Pro Football Focus for receiving and blocking the past couple of years. He's also proven capable of high-end TE2 fantasy numbers while filling in for Owen Daniels. His 2012 value depends on whether the Broncos add Dallas Clark or Jacob Tamme to the mix. Garrett Graham ascends to the No. 2 role in Houston unless a fullback is signed to free up James Casey. Second-year TE Julius Thomas may need to stay in the incubator for another year in Denver.

Here's what I wrote in a Denver thread:

It's up to Peyton but I think he can be a #1. The dude can do a little bit of everything. Good hands. Runs good routes. Solid red zone target. Quality blocker. Good on special teams. Can even be the teams long snapper. He led the Texans in TD catches last season in a back up role. Guy works hard, as evidenced when he was out of football for a whole year before he got his chance with the Texans. I would not have minded if the Texans cut Owen Daniels to keep Dreessen at a cheaper contract. Not saying I think Dreessen is a better player than OD, but I think he could put up similar stats for a much cheaper price (especially since Houston has cap issues). Peyton can give him some good stats if he so chooses. Good signing for the Broncos, in my opinion. This Texans fan will miss Joel 'Salad' Dreessen.

Dreesen is a blocker first and foremost and no where close to the route runner and receiver Dallas Clark is, so hope no one is getting their hopes too high.

I wouldn't bump Dreesen. Jacob Tamme will be the receiving option, Joel will see far too few targets (barring a Tamme injury) to matter much.

I wasn't even sure he would beat out Orange Julius prior to Tamme's signing. Now it definitely looks good. Hope you sold while it was time...

I would buy on both while the price is low. I like Dreesen and think he is much more of a receiving TE than blocking TE.

Tamme's sample is smaller but he has history with Peyton. I guess we won't know until halfway thru the season but I wouldn't sell now.

I actually expected the Broncos to sign Dallas Clark to help groom Julius Thomas, but Tamme & Dreesen are the types of TEs I expected the Broncos to sign. Thomas is the one to watch, though. He was called a "revelation" by the Denver staff last summer.

Still raw, but with unlimited upside, Thomas could get some significant PT this season. Just depends on how fast he develops.
