John Mellencamp (1 Viewer)

I really liked No Better Than This, the album Mellencamp made with T-Bone Burnett in 2010.  It was recorded live to tape on vintage equipment and a single microphone.  The lack of studio gimmickry is kind of a gimmick in itself but it didn't matter because everything worked.

The title track was the first single. It's a cool little Rockabilly stomper without a chorus. Some of the songs were recorded at Sun Studios including the Dylanesque (or Prinesque) Easter Eve.

I need to go back and re-listen to his latest record that came out a few months ago. It didn't make much of an impression on first spin but that's mostly on me.

Not long before Covid he came to Clearwater for 2 shows I think..I wanted to get tickets and the GF wasn't a fan so I passed.

I won't pass if he comes back, I've always wanted to see him live and there's probably not gonna be many chances left.

There's a lot wrong with you and this is just more of it.

I always liked the mysterious sound of Jerry. I think it would have worked as the soundtrack to a Criminal Minds type show or movie.

I also dig Human Wheels and What If I Came Knocking.

I remember working his show years ago when I worked for a backstage catering company here in KC.

He and his crew would travel with a portable basketball hoop so they could shoot hoops backstage. He was from Indiana so he was a big hoops nut.
