In the coming days I am sure that the stories associated with Jon Lester's injury are going to be focused on the overblown and overreported Yanks-Sox rivalry or how it might effect the team's chances should they make the playoffs. I would like to suggest why I am saddened by the news. My wife, Mary, had fought courageously against lymphoma when we heard the news that Jon was facing a similar battle. Mary sent a letter of encouragement to Jon, and he answered with one of the most sincere heart felt responses that I have ever read. We were both delighted that he was able to come back, pitch a no hitter and become an important cog in the teams rotation. Mary passed away earlier this year. Tonight my prayers go out to Jon Lester and his family.
