Jordan Babineaux cut (1 Viewer)

Per the FBG update e-mail with Julius Jones, Jordan Babineaux was cut by the Seahawks today.

I've been leaning toward adding Milloy anyway and this just seals it for me.

I think the way the Seahawks scheme is shaping up and with some of Milloy's past production and now the clearing of his top competition on the team....Milloy could be a top 10 DB in tackle heavy leagues.

Babineaux was their starting FS last year. The Seahawks drafted FS Earl Thomas and he was listed ahead of Babineaux as the number one FS with Babs as the number two FS before Jordan got cut.

Last year I had Babinaeux and he was a solid starter so I'm assuming FS Earl Thomas, with more athleticism and obviously the Hawks feel more confident in his play than Babs or they wouldn't have cut Babineaux, has a shot to produce even better numbers.

I would tend to favor Earl Thomas over Milloy and the depth chart shows Thomas as the #1 FS in Seattle according to Roto World.

3. E.J. Wilson

4. Junior Siavii Recent News 9/5/2010 1:48:00 PM

Seahawks claimed DT Junior Siavii off waivers from the Cowboys.

The 6-foot-5, 320-pound Siavii will work in a rotation at nose tackle behind Colin Cole once he gets up to speed in Pete Carroll's 4-3 defense. Siavii has been a 3-4 nose tackle the past few seasons for Jerry Jones' club.

MLB 1. Lofa Tatupu

2. Matt McCoy

WLB 1. David Hawthorne

2. Leroy Hill Sidelined 8/31/2010 11:06:00 AM

Seahawks WLB Leroy Hill has agreed to restructure his 2010 salary in exchange for wiping out the remaining years of his contract.

Hill's 2010 salary will fall from $6 million to $2.125 million. In exchange for the opportunity to hit the free agent market next season, he'll also forfeit the four years and $20 million left on a six-year, $36 million contract signed last offseason. Due to David Hawthorne's emergence and Hill's various off-field woes, the Seahawks no longer consider the 27-year-old part of their long-term plans. Hill may not even start this season.

3. Walter Thurmond III Recent News 8/31/2010 7:45:00 PM

Rookie Walter Thurmond III is expected to be the Seahawks' nickel back following the trade of Josh Wilson.

Current first-stringer Kelly Jennings isn't exactly a stalwart at right corner, so Thurmond could move into the starting lineup early in the season. A first-round prospect entering his senior year at Oregon, Thurmond fell to the fourth round of the 2010 draft after tearing three knee ligaments in the Ducks' fourth game of last season. His quick recovery has been highly impressive.

5. Kennard Cox

FS 1. Earl Thomas

2. Nate Ness Recent News 9/4/2010 9:14:00 PM

Dolphins waived DB Nate Ness, DB Ross Weaver, WR Julius Pruitt, S Jonathan Amaya, OL Andrew Hartline, and FB Rolly Lumbala.

Undrafted out of Arizona in 2009, Ness has seen time at both corner and safety in Dolphins practices. He starred in the first preseason game before fading the past few weeks.

Uhhhh....... :football: Seahawks are playing a new scheme this year under new coaches.

Strong safeties routinely outperform free safeties in most scoring systems and especially so in tackle heavy leagues.

The way you phrased your original question it seemed as though you felt Babineaux was a FS like Thomas and that Babineaux's release cleared the path for Milloy. The Hawk defense has changed from all accounts and in the past Milloy has been a tackling machine. You are seeking a DB for a tackle heavy leages and think the system fits.I love 36 year old Lawyer Milloy (will turn 37 in Nov) who had one start last year for the Hawks to do as well as reasonably possible and some older DBs have had great seasons, Rodney Harrison, John Lynch, Brian Hawkins, so if you feel he's a better fit for your league then go for it. My league rewards big-plays, INTs, FF, FR, PDs, sacks, returns for TDs, as do most leagues and Milloy hasn't had a sack the last three years, he's had one INT the last two years, he has had one FF in the last six years, he has had one FR the last six years, he has only scored one TD in his fifteen year NFL career, and he only had 2 PDs last year, so in my dynasty league I'm going with the first round draft pick who is 15 years Milloy's junior and has already locked up the starting job and who actually benefited from the release of Babineaux and I thought that your original question stemmed from the release of Babs and who stood to benefit in the Seahawk defensive backfield most and from my viewpoint its Earl Thomas but YMMV.

My original post said "top 10 DB in tackle heavy leagues".Most of the pieces I read about Milloy during this preaseason mentioned him in competition with Babineaux, which was one of the reasons I was hesitant to add him despite all accounts pointing to him as the starter and getting lots of action. I'm well aware of his age, but Brian Dawkins was a top 5 DB in my tackle heavy league last year and Milloy was a top 20 DB in 2008.

So..... :goodposting: apparently Babineaux is on the team now. He put up 6-2 with an INT. Meanwhile Milloy had only 3 solos.

Would this have been some move to restructure his contract?

Would be great to get some word on what the experts know about this situation. I was watching some of the Hawks game yesterday and the announcer mentioned that "Lawyer Milloy had left the game and Jordan Babineaux had come in to replace him". Did Milloy get nicked? Milloy did return to make one tackle from that point.

It appears the postion is going to produce. I would've been esctatic if Milloy had put up 6 solos and a pick like JB. JB is available in my league......

Included in this week's RTD:Don’t be fooled by Babineaux’s big day. Two things inflated his stats last week. First, the Seahawks chose to defend multiple wide receiver sets with Vernon Davis in the slot with zone coverage and dime personnel. Babineaux played a hybrid safety-linebacker role on those snaps. Later in the game, he rotated with Lawyer Milloy, who was having problems with his vision according to the team.

Unless we hear that Babineaux is back in the starting lineup due to injury or improved play, I'd let someone else pick him up.
