Jordan Peele's new movie "Us" (1 Viewer)

Im pretty sure that's a requirement of a horror movie. Otherwise it's just a movie.
I'm pretty sure you 100% incorrect.  Plus, scary to who? Having horror elements and themes <> being scary.

A movie could be poking fun at the genre too- I would say Tucker and Dale vs Evil is a horror movie.  How about Army of Darkness?

This might be the confusing thing for me in this discussion.  I didn't realize it was considered by some to be a horror movie.  I probably would not have watched it as I'm not into horror movies generally.  I thought it was pretty entertaining, funny at times, good movie, obviously with massive plot holes and the like if put under a microscope. Will obviously disappoint those looking for a classic horror movie.
I am confused now because I didn't know people didn't consider it to be a horror movie.

Trailer makes me homesick.  Thought get out was ok.  Good thing about being semi isolated is that I am not usually subjected to the hype and go on with no expectations.

Lol at analyzing a horror movie. It was a blast to watch. I don’t know why the guy didn’t just leave. Probably because it would have ended the movie.
There's a YouTube series called Pitch Meetings on ScreenRant where a guy plays as a writer and producer. Sometimes the producer will ask "Well why does so and so do that?" And the writer will reply "So the movie can happen" to which the producer replies "Fair enough."

A lot of movies should never happen if logic and common sense were applied.

It’s entertaining and well acted, but poorly conceived. The movie should have stopped before the “explanations,” and there were a couple plot holes you could drive a truck through. The ending had me stifling laughter. It was a fun but forgettable movie, imo.

meh, it had a few good spots and creepy images but overall not that good. I agree with the poster above who says they should have stayed away from the explanation.

SPOILER!!!:

This movie confirms for me that I am truly a passive movie watcher. I don’t try to figure things out while I’m watching. The twist for this should have been so completely obvious to everyone, but I still didn’t see it coming. I mean, she is the only one who talks!  In any event, I thought the movie was pretty darn creepy in parts and overall a decent watch.

I liked Get Out better.

The ending of US didn't make much sense to me or it went completely over my head.

Get Out was entertaining as a drama, but when people start calling it one of the scariest movies ever, come on!! There wasn't a moment in the movie that was scary--not a second. There was tension, maybe a little building drama, but when you market your movie as a "horror movie" and you are not scary, then you failed. It would be like a big $$ action flick and there is 90 minutes of dialogue and two minutes of action.

Us had horror moments in it and some genuine horror action--like when the two teenage sisters get killed. That was pretty good stuff there, but then when i read what the plot was going for, I am just   It was like I watched a different movie. .Maybe when I went to the kitchen for a beer I missed some incredible scene where they explained everything. That being said, I figured out what the big plot twist was early on.

Average movies at best and we are huge horror movie fans in my house.

What was the plot going for?  I don’t think the movie really explained much at all. And what little it did explain only left a whole bunch of other questions to be answered. I think that was very much intentional.

Also, I think even mentioning that there is a “big plot twist” is a bit of a spoiler.  I think if I had in my mind that there was a big plot twist coming, I probably would have figured it out as I would have been expecting it and, as I think we both agree, there was a ton of foreshadowing to make it pretty obvious.

I get where you are coming from, but for my rankings, a great horror movie doesn't have to be scary.  I don't think that's always the intent behind horror movies, and I have seen enough of them that I don't get genuinely scared too often in during movies.

If horror movies need to be scary to be considered a horror movie, then only a handful of horror movies have ever been made.

That said, this movie is more suspense than horror.
