Gene and Aaron what do you think of this. Does this means Dizon gets a shot at being a 3 down LB or a reserve specializing in the nickel package.I have a rookie draft in 6 weeks and was going to cut bait before this news came out.If Dizon were to play in a scheme where he lines up outside on base downs and moves inside on nickel coverages (as this article suggests)- where does that put his fantasy value?

Actually, outside of Dizon that is a pretty good ranking as Mayo, Lofton, and Rivers all look to be very solid fantasy LB plays for years to come. I would venture a guess and say that Dizon's ranking at 4 also had something to do with the situation he was falling into at the time- looking to supplant an underwhelming player like Lenon (MLB) who put up great stats coupled by the fact the Lions defense would be on the field moreso than 75% of the other NFL teams. As they say, hindsight is 20-20 and just like NFL player personnel you are going to miss out on a few. Unfortunately, it seemed like Marinelli was married to his veterans and was more concerned with keeping his job than developing young talent. Couple this with the fact that Dizon got hurt with neck stingers and hammy issues and his season was pretty much down the tubes. At any rate, I hope I Dizon can turn things around- but will be cautiously optimistic at best. If I have the room on my roster, I am willing to let him ride another year to see what develops.bcr8f said:I didn't see anything even though I looked several times. Oh yeah. I wasn't criticizing I was saying most people thought highly of him at the time. His weight and other issues didn't come out until later.Actually, outside of Dizon that is a pretty good ranking as Mayo, Lofton, and Rivers all look to be very solid fantasy LB plays for years to come. Those concerns were voiced relatively by some soon after the draft. Here are some posts I made from last spring suggesting tempered expectations despite the very good opportunity Dizon had in front of him for the taking. Others shared the same opinion.Rookie LB debateOh yeah. I wasn't criticizing I was saying most people thought highly of him at the time. The starting lineup looks etched in stone, barring injury. Dizon will likely be in some of the packages on passing down, but that's about it.Did anyone see the Detroit game yesterday? Dizon showed up with 6 solos in the box score. Looks like he didn't come in until the 3rd quarter though... but how did he look? Any glimmer of hope here? With Peterson/Sims, can he possibly break into the starting lineup barring injury?
Based on what you're seeing, is Larry Foote getting a majority of the passing down snaps? Or was Dizon (or Peterson?) filling in a lot for him during the recent game? The starting lineup looks etched in stone, barring injury. Yeah- I agree with this. He probably was just getting some action with the 2nd/3rd stringers and while it was encouraging to see him making some tackles, I don't think he has any fantasy value unless Ernie Sims where to suffer a long term injury. It seems like even if Foote where to miss time they would go another direction at MLB due to Dizon being to undersized for the role.Anthony Borbely said:The starting lineup looks etched in stone, barring injury. Thanks Jene.Just added in the training camp blog thread:
**Larry Foote played every down again against the Browns and looked very active. Julian Peterson was nowhere to be found on nickel downs. Ernie Sims was around the ball, but still looks like less than an impact player. Kalvin Pearson was impressive, but the Lions had him up in the box frequently and he rarely was blocked.
I didn't see Dizon on any first team snaps in the first half. His playing time came with the backups in the second half.
