Josh Johnson starter in TB (1 Viewer)

Per Morris PC on ESPN
Wow. That didn't take long. Leftwich had 2 good starts and then an awful start when the entire team was shut down. Johnson comes in and goes 4/10 for 36 yards and they make a change? I hope Morris shows more patience when Freeman finally gets his chance.

Bump Bryant??
Why? I can't think of any reason to bump Bryant other than unrelated health improvements. Leftwich throws a very good deep ball and has proven that he can produce fantasy wise in the NFL. Johnson has a total of 10 passes in his NFL career seeing his first ever action yesterday. Why would this information bump Bryant?

I was actually questioning myself for bothering to keep Josh Johnson on my taxi squad in my dynasty league a month ago. :goodposting:

The good news for Josh Johnson is that he's playing the Redskins this week. Thus, he'll have an lmost perfect 3rd down conversion rate. :lmao:

I went and checked out the Bucs message board and the fans there are thrilled with the move. In a nut shell, they think rebuilding should start now and that they wanted Johnson to get a shot before the reigns where passed from Leftwich to Freeman, bypassing Johnson. I guess it makes sense in that light. If the Bucs wait for another 5-7 weeks and then start Freeman, they never really get a look at Johnson who has shown some potential.

EDIT to add: Of course this begs the question, why bring in Leftwich in first place if this is the plan?

As with many coaching staffs, they overestimated the team's ability to compete this year and went with the guy who gave them the best chance to win this year rather than someone with the best chance to develop.

I don't agree with that, I think it was a fine decision on Tampa's part to go into the season and try to win now, just look at Miami last season and Pennington vs. Henne. Now, we're 3 weeks deep, it's evident they can't compete, so might as well look toward the future, good timing on the move imho.

I'm ok with this move. Johnson looked decent in limited action. However, the reason for their inability to compete isn't due to the offensive side of the ball (assuming we give the offense a mulligan against the NYG, one of the best Ds in the league).

Huh, sooner than expected. What do people think this does to Bryant's and Winslow's values? I was happy (until week 3) with Leftwich in there from a fantasy perspective, we'll have to wait and see with Johnson...guess it can't be worse than week 3. How about TB RB value? Will Johnson's throws be limited and will they rely on the running game more?

I'm trying to figure out where it is that we don't agree . . .

Fine spot start. Threat to run (and very fast/elusive in open field), great touch on deep passes on only drive. Took a hit to convert fourth down, seemed to be a quick thinker, solid field vision. A little antsy in red zone, needs to take something off short passes, but for limited sample in garbage time, seemed promising.

Johnson has the best chance to succeed in Tampa. 1%.

Great #'s in college and he can throw it. Good thing because that D sucks now.

I'd like to see Freeman in there though when my (Jets) D comes to town. We are going to hurt them bad.
