Julius Jones - How much will morris take (1 Viewer)

I have followed Seattle for anumber of years as a long time darrel Jackson owner and Shaun Alexander. It seems like Holgrem really has a thing for Morris and Morris knows the sytem. Will this have a major effect on Jones overally touches. He is getting paid to be the starter but then again Shaun A was making the big bucks and thy had no roblem plugging in Morris then. Its a great division to run up against so If one of these players can establish themself it could be big.

So What do you see as their numbers

Jones 275- 1150-8 30-200-1

Morris 125-500-4 40-300-1

Quote the walrus never more

Anybody else find it odd that Jones and Duckett signed contracts for similar amounts? Did Duckett get 5 million guaranteed to be Seattle's RB3?

From everything I have read, it seems to be Jones' job to lose. Holmgren has said no RB will see 25+ carries, and that Jones and Morris will get the bulk of the work. If I was to guess, I would be Jones sees an average of about 15 carries a game, with Morris getting about 5-10, and the rest of the RBs (Duckett, Weaver, Schmidt?) filling in the rest.

Jones fits well with what they want to do, the real question is whether or not the line has improved.

Also, here is an article talking about the situation a little bit:

The second half of Jones rookie season was special. After that though he has been a bust IMO. He has not impressed anyone and now he is a going to team with an inferior OL. He will be very ordinary again IMO. He does not create and has lousy agility IMO. Morris on the other hand can cut much better than Jones and I think will out perform him if given the opportunity

RBBC city in Seatlle.

Morris is as close to FF irrelevant as a backup RB can get. He's adequate at everything and above average at nothing. He hasn't shown anything that would make me believe hes anything more than a COP back.

I wouldn't touch him unless you're in a 16+ team league with deep rosters.

Not sure that in terms of impact that Jones and Morris are much different. The question will be number of touches and until the season starts not willing to make much of guess.

I would say the same thing about Jones now too. He is going to a worse situation. His OL in Seattle was horrid at run blocking last season...horrid. He has shown he has bad lateral movement, can't create space...average hands. He will be a huge dissapointment.

Thanks for everyones reply's and that article MG345

I think you are really putting down Jones. He is an explosive back who is young and Seattle usually has a good scedule vs the run. What scares me is the Walrus. He is the worst coach in the NFL. He has tarnished aAlexander reputation beyond belief. Alexander had the most prolific strech over the past 5 or 6 years out of any rb in history (altough LT is putting one together now emmit had a good one in the early 90's). I hope Alexander signs somewhere and shuts everyone up.

Putting him down? The last 2 years he has been a huge fantasy bust IMO. His rookie year showed a ton of promise and he has fizzled out fast. I think your living in the past with him. He lost his job in Dallas which is a prolific offense. Barber was so much better it was not even close.Proceed with caution.

:shrug:Jones may surprise with his production, but your statement about Holmgren is silly and it's even sillier as a defense of Alexander, who's never been the same since that foot injury IMHO. His legs are shot. What's your theory there anyway? Did Holmgren intentionally sabotage his running game the last two years despite having an all-but-guaranteed division title and playoff berth? :goodposting:

Seattle has an easy schedule vs. the run.

perhaps JJ needed a change of scenery like Thomas Jones did. We all had TJ buried as a 'bust' and a never-has-been, but he turned all of that around and has developed into a solid, legit NFL RB..

Playing against the Rams, Cards, Niners is a LOT easier than NYG, Philly, Washington, not to mention that

two opponents ( Rams, Cards) play in domes and the other, SF, is a warm climate team, so weather will not play a role.

There is no RB on that roster who will beat out JJ for the starting gig, its his job to lose. Marion Barber isn't on the roster, either,so JJ won't have to look over his shoulder anymore..

Seattle's O-line is far from the worst in the league..perhaps everyone is judging them based on a 30-something washed up RB who can't hit a hole, and can't run anymore ( SA), or a never-has-been scrub backup named Maurice Morris?

I'll take JJ in a heartbeat..I think he's going to be a stud in Seattle..

:lmao: Not only that, but Alexander is the softest elite back I have ever witnessed. He avoids contact like he's Marvin Harrison. At least Marvin has an excuse with his small frame. He was a great offensive weapon when he had a great line and his speed. Just like last year, now he has neither. Oh, and Julius Jones is Shaun Alexander light. He can't break an arm tackle and loves to run into defenders and fall.

I think Morris is worthless but Duckett will get his chances and could end up as the most valuable. I am not a JJ fan because in Dallas he had a great situation and he was given numerous attempts to secure the starting job and could never hold off Barber.

Is Forsett worth anything. I drafted him as a late round flier, but that sure seems like a crowded backfield right now.

In dynasty leagues, the one to keep an eye on here is Duckett. Holmgren's gone next year and Mora Jr. loves Duckett.

For 2008, the only one I would expect to have any real impact is Jones. Maybe Morris has a little more value in a PPR league IF he's used that way (which is still a big ?)

Encouraging for JJ owners (and discouraging for Duckett owners) is Holmgren's refusal to designate a "goalline back." If given opportunity by a solid passing game, Jones could have sufficient red zone opportunities to be a real nice RB3 in a flex league.

On the query above, no, I do not believe Forsett will have an impact in this crowded backfield.

Wat? Mora loved him so much that he gave him 225 carries in two years and then had so little use for him in 2006 that he was traded away during training camp. What's changed since Atlanta?

Duckett was a hand picked FA by Mora Jr. Mora Jr. gave him the most GL opps of his career in Atl. He had a good run at the end of 2007 with the Lions, and Mora pursued him heavily. Holmgren is gone next year and Mora Jr. will likely be in charge. Duckett is getting paid the same amount as JJ per year, but is signed for one more year.I'd say those are pretty obvious signs that he has more dynasty value than 2008 value, and it indicates how much Mora Jr. likes Duckett

(edited a missed stat)

Jones is a much better runner than Morris. Morris is a little better receiver but I dont see a lot of carries for Morris. The bigger threat to Jones's production is Duckett, who should at least steal some TDs.

I don't think so.One of the big appeals to JJ is that he is a great receiving back who can block. This wasn't really taken advantage as much as it could have been in Dallas, but with Holmgren loving to play a style of WCO, JJ will fit in perfectly and basically take away the only advantage Morris had over the starting RB in years past.

TJ Duckett's the best RB in this backfield, he's the only one I'm even considering rostering, and only in deeper formats.

So in other words, by saying the other guys aren't even rosterable, you're concluding all of the following:1) Duckett is a starting caliber NFL RB;

2) Duckett is the best such RB on the Seahawks' roster in 2008;

3) Duckett will get a majority of the Seahawks' carries; and

4) Duckett will get such a preponderance of carries that he will be in the relatively rare NFL situation where he's not in a RBBC (and is therefore the only rosterable RB in that backfield).

To that I say, ORLY?

I don't know if JJ is a "great" receiving back - I think he is better than most RBs at catching the ball. And he is definitely better than Morris at it - and better at blocking. And probably a better runner between the tackles.

100% agreement. Morris brings nothing to the table that JJ does not do at least as well.

An article published after the JJ signing showed him with overall similar money as Duckett, but that includes all of Duckett's incentive money; and supposedly the incentives are fairly unrealistic, iirc. Also, the JJ contract had no signing bonus and JJ receiving 5.5M salary in 2008, and was voidable in 09. Maybe these "facts" are incorrect, but I cannot imagine the club paying a RB 5.5M in a year without expecting him to start. I think this is Holmgren's one year shot at the SB, and JJ won't be a Seahen in 2009 without a STELLAR year in 2008.If someone knows more detail, or can correct the details on his contract, please post the real deal. TIA

For projections I have:

Jones

Rush 1,141 4 TD

Rec 368 3 TD

Tot 1,509 7 TD

Fantasy Pts 193 (12.1 PPG)

Duckett

Rush 346 5 TD

Rec 147 1 TD

Tot 493 6 TD

Fantasy Pts 79 (5.0 PPG)

Reports out of OTA's say that Duckett is looking really SLOW. If JJ has a great camp, it's a very distinct possibility that he becomes the main workhorse and they scarp the RBBC approach.

Fixed.

Wow... surprising to se so much love in this thread for a guy who was already beaten out by a 4th round draft pick for carries, going to a team where there's already a later round pick who outperformed the starter.

Seriously, none of the RBs in SEA are worth anything. Morris is definitely going to see time, Jones and Duckett are busts... what is there to really like?

DAL has a far better OL than SEA, and if Julius couldn't cut it there... why on earth do people think he'll be good in SEA.

ETA - Why do people think Jones is a better receiver than Morris? Watching them would not indicate that, neither would their stats, or the way they've been used. :)

I dont think Jones is a better reciever than Morris but Dallas did misuse Jones somewhat. There is a reason why Jones was the starter in Dallas for several years... he can play. He's definately no bust. There's a reason why Jones was signed and Alexander was cut. Ignore Jones all you want to. Morris knows the system but he doesnt have the running ability that Jones does. This will not be as big of an RBBC as people think and this offense can still produce. I've always liked Jones, always thought more highly of him than Barber (who everyone realized was a big steal in the 4th btw), and I still do.

1. Sort of, he's the default best one on Seattle's roster in my eyes, the other options suck2. Yes.

3. Not necessarily, but for a late round price I'd be willing to take the minimal risk

4. You're twisting my words, I'm not considering rostering Julie because even the low end of his value is too high in my eyes, MoMo's a desparation start even when he is "the guy," why waste a roster spot on a guy I'm not even going to like starting if he's the only healthy RB that week. I've seen good things out of Duckett throughout his career, just doesn't seem to ever get the opportunity...for whatever reason.
