Just how cheap are the Cardinals? (1 Viewer)

One thing is certain: After eight seasons with the Vikings, three with the rebooted Browns and two with the Cardinals, Griffith has a pretty good handle on what he doesn't find helpful from an organization. For instance, when a team Fed Exes you a contract, which you then sign and return, it's a bad sign if your subsequent signing-bonus check isn't a round number.

"That's what happened when I signed my deal in '05," Griffith says. "The Fed Ex cost $14.11 or something, and when I got my check, they'd deducted it -- the check was for like $499,985.89, or whatever. That's how they do s--- in Arizona. That's how they run their business!"

If I was getting a check that big, I would not only be happy to pay the fed ex I would go out of my way to tip the mail man and thank my lucky stars to be fortunate enough to play in the NFL.

It's almost impossible to state how cheap the Bidwells are. Until very recently they wouldn't pay for marquee players and played at a crappy college stadium with bench seats. Fun for drunk college games but not when you're shelling out NFL prices. And when the team is losing (ie perpetually) and seats are empty their solution is to raise ticket prices and try to negotiate a pay per view contract for away games. It wasn't until the realignment and a Dallas homesellout was taken away did they start adressing issues in a smarter fashion. But they are cheap cheap cheap.

I don't think it's about the money, it's about the principle. You're running a huge business and you expect other people to pay for your mail? It makes you look silly.

Taking out the $14.11 from a half million dollar check makes you look sillier.

I don't even know what to say to that. However, did he agree to pay for that fee in his contract? If not, that's really low of the Bidwells to even attempt it.

We all would be. Nonetheless, I believe Griffith is right that is says something about the organization when they ding you for the shipping charge on a half-million dollar check.

Actually it was his mail. I'm sure there is more to this story. I would hope the normal way of paying bonuses is by direct deposit. He probably requested a check delivered by Fed Ex and was promptly billed. On the other hand, if this is the normal way of paying bonuses it makes sense why the franchise has struggled.

This is a joke. A guy gets a ton of money and he is #####ing about paying shipping costs? Yes the Cardinals look Cheap, but what does it say about Griffith crying over it? both parties look bad

It doesn't sound like he is crying over the $15, it's the principal that they deducted that from his check, which is just Petty that the Cards did that.
