Just who are the Fascist? (2 Viewers)

Herb said:
What a repugnant story. That people would threaten anyone, let alone a US senator, in those ways makes me sick.

I weep for my children's future if some big changes aren't forthcoming.
With the full power of the government behind them and the unchallenged ownership of violence, I assume she's been liquidated by the fascists at this point?

Hey @jon_mx: now that the president is attempting to supersede Congress's Article I spending power via a power grab in order to divert previously appropriated disaster relief and Army Corps funds and use them to buy up private land via eminent domain to build a ridiculous border wall, I was wondering if you maybe had any further thoughts on just who the fascists are?

I think you meant ". . . who the fascist are?"

Trump to Breitbart on how the left plays tough: "I have the support of the police, the support of the military, the support of the Bikers for Trump — I have the tough people, but they don’t play it tough — until they go to a certain point and then it would be very bad, very bad."

So just who are the fascists anyway? It's truly a mystery.

That one seems funny thrown in there with military and police.

he has the legal right to and its not unconstitutional.

You need a new notebook. AOC is the communist.
The usage of the word fascist today is more along the lines of someone who wants full control and has no tolerance for opposing opinions.  She probably falls in there.  In the historical meaning of the terms, she is more accurately a commie.   My point is more about how the term has been cheapened in today's political world.   Too many terms today are thrown around like candy to attempt to ramp up the impact of the rhetoric.

I'm not gonna get into the constitutionality of the emergency declaration and the diversion of appropriated funds, but even if you were correct it would be irrelevant.  A fascist could campaign for and be elected president, after nomination by a political party calling themselves the Fascist party and putting forth a fascist platform, and once in office could do any number of things that any reasonable person would describe as fascist, without violating the law or the constitution. That doesn't make them less of a fascist.

Does fascism mean to bypass the Constitution to build a wall really rise to the level of Fascism.   A huge waste of money and hopefully gets stopped, but is that Fascism?  An abuse of power is more accurate.

I agree, in the vernacular, the meaning of the words fascist and fascism have become watered down from their origins.

If you go to merriam webster you get the definitions:

1 often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

2: a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control
I guess people have kind of defaulted to the 2nd definition when they throw these words around now. I tend to apply the first, more restrictive, definition when I think of these words.

"I have the support of the police, the support of the military, the support of the Bikers for Trump — I have the tough people, but they don’t play it tough — until they go to a certain point, and then it would be very bad, very bad." - Donald Trump

I think we have a winner.

It's hard to pin down a definition of fascism, obviously. But I think violating the spirit and perhaps the letter of the law and the Constitution in order to do an end run around a democratically elected legislature and move military funding away from projects approved by legislators and regulators and into your own lie, hate and fear-fueled nationalist project intended to protect a racial majority probably checks a lot of boxes.

Trying on for size:  the extralegal use of violence (or credible threat of violence) specifically to advance to conservative* causes.

Conservative:  someone who generally favors retaining power for the powerful.
Not sure what fascism has to do with conservative causes.   Conservatives tend to be nationalistic, but that is about it.  Your definition of conservative is not even remotely close.

Out of all his stupid statements, that one is the closest to being what a fascist might say.
