Justin Griffith signs with the Merced Raiders (1 Viewer)

NFL Network reports Oakland has agreed to terms with FB Justin Griffith on a three-year, $3.8 million contract. The deal is pending a physical.

The Raiders' backfield is now quite full, and on paper it would appear they're poised to use a running back by committee. Griffith averaged 5.6 yards-per-carry in 2006 and is a capable receiver, though he'll be hard pressed to become a factor in fantasy football. This could spell the end of Zack Crockett's tenure in Oakland and leaves ReShard Lee, Joe Echemandu, and Justin Fargas possibly competing for a roster spot.

I've actually always thought he was a pretty skilled player. I guess this seals his fate. He'll never amount to anything now.

He's a FB
I know, he's not a real FF option, but I thought the trade was newsworthy none-the-less.
I have no prob with the thread, not at all man. I like Justin for FF. I just don't think it's RBbc because he's there. He's good for maybe(maybe) 20 yards rushing/receiving per week and 2-3 catches OR 4-5 times the D isn't expecting the FB to get the ball.Rhodes and Jordan and is Fargas still around? I could roll with RBBC for them but I don't see Griffith changing anything here

Lane "Al davis has lint in his ears older than me" Kiffin is going to have an interesting assortment of weapons at his disposal this season. It will be interesting to see if they come up with someone to either take a snap or block this year.

The Raiders don't want him. They want to trade Moss to the Packers and the Packers want Justin. Interesting play by the Raiders.

If the Raiders get Aaron Rogers then they can draft a certain WR.

Fantasy-wise, this is not a big deal.Football-wise, I am stoked with this move. 3 years, 3.8 mill? what did Ovie Mughelli get again?good signing.

That's an interesting idea. Would a team really sign a player as a free agent solely to help in a trade they are interested in?

Tatum Bell is rumour to be on the trade block and Tampa is trying to trades Plummers rights for R. Moss. In the draft Manning was drafted as trade bait to get Rivers at a lower price. Its been done before. I will be interesting to see if they wait till the draft.Griffin was cut because he was to small to be a good full back EXCEPT in a cut block system which Atlanta's new coach is dumping.

Didn't Griffith fly to Oakland from Green Bay, where he was meeting with the Pack? Why didn't they sign him then?

Griffith, in theory anyway, should be a good fit if Kiffin is trying to implement the system he was caretaking at 'SC after Norm Chow left. That system valued a pass catcher at FB (David Kirtman was good out of the backfield for the Trojans) over a road-grader, and that is the type of FB Griffith is. A pretty good signing, especially considering the money Ovie Mughelli got from the Dirty Birds. Of course, Griffith will be playing for Oakland, so it will pretty much be a disaster through no fault of his own.
