Keep Winston in 9th? (1 Viewer)

12 Team PPR - Starting only 1 QB.

My pick is 8th overall in a snake draft format.

I can keep Winston as a 9th round pick with Draft Dominator shows his ADP as 7th round.

** Should I keep Winston in the 9th? **

Any recommendations on whether I should keep him or just roll the dice to see if he or any other QB falls to the 8th round or later with value? I've done a later round QB pick strategy (after 9th) the past few seasons and generally have done alright filling my roster in earlier rounds and with a resulting QB. Case in point last year I selected Winston in the 11th allowing me to keep in this year two rounds earlier...

Is Winston poised for a top 5 QB year with the weapons that I should roll the dice and lock him in as my 9th overall, allowing me to focus the rest of my strategy on WR / RBs? Should I just wait to see who falls to later rounds in QB position?

Thanks for feedback/suggestions.

You can't really answer this question without knowing what you are choosing between.  If it is choosing between keeping Winston in the 9th or keeping nobody then keeping Winston is the easy choice.  It's decent value and doesn't cost you really anything significant to keep him.

To answer your question, yes Winston has potential to be a top 5 guy but I don't think he will be that this year.  He will be a solid starter with some bad games sprinkled in.  But given the choice of freezing Winston for a 9th or freezing nobody.....I will freeze Winston.

I actually disagree (which is rare with Gally) I'd let Winston walk. I think you can get him or someone better in round 9. I think Tampa is a year or even two years away from really blowing up, and Winston is more a matchup play than a solid starter in my opinion.

I appreciate both perspectives so far!

I was in Gallys camp initially up until I posted to this forum. I switched to travdoggs perspective though the more I thought about availability of various qbs in round 9.

How about this twist: Tom Brady and mariota are being kept by 2 other teams , so they are out of circulation. Does that impact any keeper value in 9thfor Winston?

Also Qbs 6 pts per TD. Double score (12 pts) for any TD over 50 yards too...

Thanks guys!

I like it, especially if Winston is the kind of guy you'd likely be drafting in round 9. Remove the uncertainty and get a QB you're ok with. Especially if there is no other cost to you.

Good luck.  Please see mine: https://forums.footballguys.com/forum/topic/758120-who-to-keep-involves-gurley-cooper-m-thomas/

Thanks for helping with mine.

The way I look at it is this way:

is Winston a tremendous value in the 9th round? No. But does he at least offer value or even some security in knowing you have your potential top 5 QB locked up in the 9th round so u don't have to worry? Absolutely.

If the question was between Winston and "x" or Winston in rounds 7 or lower, then I'd pause. But even if he would have gone in the 9th round, you're guaranteed him there. And can focus on other areas of need.

Hope this helps

I like Winston and could be top 6/7 QB.  I like him in the 9th.  Plus - added security of knowing you have him locked in in the 9th round.
