Keeper Advice - New Member (1 Viewer)

Defending champion in my PPR league and picking 12th (snake draft, so picking back to back). I could keep Cooper Cupp and lose my first round pick, or keep TJ Hockenson and lose a 4th round pick. Another sneaky option could be to keep Jerrick McKinnon and lose an 8th rounder. Picked him up as a FA last year right before he went on his hot streak.

Keep
Cupp - lose 1st
Hockenson - lose 4th
McKinnon - lose 8th

Thanks for any advice.

In a keep one league just keep your best player. One player doesn't make your team and being too cute and keeping a lesser player likely doesn't even help you. There is a chance (depending on how the draft goes) that McKinnon wouldn't even start for you. So why keep him. It's a waste.

The only time I stray from that approach is if the keeper is a 1st rounder. But in this case getting Kupp as the 1.12 is never going to happen in most leagues and especially in a league where 12 players are kept. So because of that I just keep Kupp and enjoy.

It's easy to fall into the trap you did with your summary of "keep Kupp, lose 1st" but all 1st-round picks are not created equal.

FBG OG David Dodds' trade calculator tells us the 1.04 (Kupp's PPR ADP) is worth almost 400 points of value more than the 1.12. Hockenson's ADP would have to be 18th overall in order to make keeping him for your 4th more valuable than getting Kupp at the 1.12. Spoiler alert: Hock's ADP is not 18th overall.

Keep Kupp, grab Chubb or Pollard at 13, and enjoy your inside track to a repeat.

Great advice from both of you. Won the league last year with some great FA signings...had Cupp on the shelf 1/2 the season with his injury. Did not release him just for the chance to keep him this year. Thanks again!!
