I like to believe you did it clean.

I feel like this chase is real. I know the records are forever tainted, but I'm pulling for you.

I just hope that hammy doesn't pull too...

You were a joy to watch!

Bonds 762

Aaron 755

Ruth 714

Mays 660

Sosa 609

Griffey 600

How many games has Griffey missed in his career? Have to believe he would have at least 50-75 more right now.

:lmao: From 2001-2007, Griffey missed 598 games (played 698), averaging just a hair under 100 games per season. Before 2001, he averaged about 140 games per season. Over his career, he's hit a HR about every 4 games (1 HR/4.5 GM 2001-2007). Had he continued at an 140 gm/season pace and the conservative HR/4.5 GM pace during his injury plagued seasons, he could have had an extra 62 HRs.

He also missed 140+ potential games in his early 20s when he was routinely hitting 40-50 HRs per season. Using the same criteria above with his HR rate at that time (more like 1 HR/3 GM), he may have had 30-35 more in those two seasons and could have been pushing 700 HRs if he had averaged 140 games/season for his entire career.

Coulda, shoulda, woulda.

Griffey has played in 2383 of a possible 3015 games in his career (79%).

He's homered at a pace of .24885 per game. If he kept that pace throughout his career and played in all those extra games, he would have 750 home runs by now.

If he averaged missing only 5 games a year, he would have 727 home runs.

The reason I became a Mariners fan was because of Junior. Joy to watch. Easily my favorite game I have ever attended was last year when he returned to Seattle. I was at game 2 of that series and the atmosphere was just unreal.

With all the injuries he has sustained, my goal for him is to just pass as many steroid users as possible. he'll never catch Bonds but barring diaster, he'll pass Sosa and only have one tool in front of him and 3 greats.

Got right field tickets for Tuesday night's game. Hopefully he'll hold off until then.

@ Florida Marlins

1st inning 2run HR off of Mark Hendrickson

Congrats to Griffey Jr and the 3600 people in attendance to witness history.

Congrats to a great player, one of the greatest I have ever seem with my own eyes

I actually won 20 bucks here, as I bet a guy at the bar 2 bucks at 10-1 odds he would hit t in that at bat

I just had a crazy feeling as he stepped to the plate

Griffey has averaged 15.10 ABs/HR in his career (tied for 13th all time FWIW)

By my estimation injuries cost him about 1800 career Abs (based on approx 550 Abs/season)

At that rate injuries cost him about 120 homers, which would put him in the 720 range

He is a rare talent that I am glad to say I was lucky enough to see

They were talking about Red's GM Dusty Baker on Mike & Mike this morning. In addition to Griffey, he was also Bond's coach when he hit #600 & #700. Was Sosa's coach when he hit #600. And he was ON DECK when Hank Aaron hit #715 to pass Babe Ruth as the all-time HR leader. Amazing.

way to reverse jinx it for him. :o i've got tix for wend. Thinking of making a sign congratulating him.
Can't believe he didn't wait one more day.
Me too. I also missed McGwire's 62nd by one game. He hit the game before a game here in Cincy. Bad luck for me, but I did get the Nux statue!

Absolutely electric atmosphere for Griffey's return home opener last night. Playoff feel the whole game with the crowd getting into every situation. Had a video camera with to try and get a nice piece of video to remember the moment but the crowd kept getting too loud and it was overloading my audio buffer. Happened in pregame introductions, first at bat, and after he got his first inning single. Crowd stood up and popped for every at bat but not a problem on his other three.

If the Mariners are still contending at playoff time, they should have the cash to get help if needed just from the Griffey merch sales. Team Store was just a zoo and they were trying hard to keep the stock on the racks and shelves.

Great player. Injuries certainly cost him better numbers in his career.

I saw him go 4-6 with a double, 2 home runs, and 8 rbi's and in the same game Omar Vizquel hit 2 home runs :(
