Kendall batting 9th behind Sheets (1 Viewer)

Isn't that an old Tony LaRussa move? Use the 9 hitter as a second leadoff man so you can have more runners on base for the 2-3-4 guys?

Should we expect to see this thread appear once a week for the rest of the year?
Sorry to disrupt your day. I'll try to be more considerate next time.......
I love it when message boarder's get defensive when they're made to look stupid.
Yes thats it  . Good job on making "message boarder's" look stupid. I'm not going to point out the irony in your post because you're not intelligent enough to figure it out......

Batting your worst hitter 8th instead of 9th adds about 3 runs per season
link?
It is from The Book by Tango Tiger. From page 146, where the authors are running a Markov-chain simulation to see how many runs different lineup orders would be expected to score for an average team.
Let's re-run our model by swapping the players in the eighth and ninth spots. That is, let's test thesecond leadoff theory. This time, the model generated 4.847 runs per game [as opposed to 4.835 with the pitcher batting ninth]! It exists! This is a gain of .012 runs per game (or two runs per season). So, the cost of having the pitcher get more PA is indeed more than balanced by having a half-way decent hitter set the table for the top of the order.
They then present a table showing the expected runs per game with the pitcher hitting in each spot in the lineup: having the pitcher bat eighth does result in the most expected runs.

Fascinating. I may have to pick up that book.

Thats interesting, thanks Wilked...Somehow, Yost's numbers equal about 30 more runs this season

Team research indicated that based on last year's statistics for the players, with the pitcher batting eighth and Kendall ninth the Brewers should score 30 more runs than they did last season, when they scored 801 runs. The research also showed that every 10 more runs equals a victory.

Well, looking at one season's statistics is a bit biased... Maybe the data from last year shows that, but that could well be an indication of their #8 hitter last year hitting better than usual

I've always put my best hitter #1, second best #2, and so on...it seems to work in the ever so competetive MCBL! It's probably far from the optimal strategy, but the players seem to like it...

This guy calling people tools =
It's not really a case of the pot calling the kettle black because I wasn't offended by his insult. I thought his response added nothing to my original post so I called him a tool. I was just calling it as it is---nothing more, nothing less.

Fred> You have an uncanny ability to call it like it is. Is that something that comes natural to you, or is it something you had to learn?
What is so uncanny about it? ETA......Please don't respond to this.....we've both said what we needed to say so better to just drop it. You're new around here and I wouldn't want to be the cause of your first timeout........

What donk in their right mind would let Pujols fall beyond #2 in the draft? I mean, it's not like there's any injury problems with him. Geez...effin newbs.

Where is Jose Mesa? I thought he was still closing in Cleveland. WTF!Signed, fred_1_15301
Thank God I have enough thick skin to deal with such clever insults :( ........phew
oooooooh.....are you going to get him a timeout too?
:lmao: .....We've already established that I don't want you to get a timeout......it's kind of cute to have a stalker. It's fun having so much control over you........... :lmao:
