Kenny Irons injured...UPDATED, torn ACL (1 Viewer)

I was admittedly never a big fan of Irons anyway, but he seems nigh on untouchable at this point. ACL injuries take 2 years to recover from.

It's one thing if you've proven yourself in the league (e.g. Edge). Then teams are willing to wait on you; they know you're probably worth it. But I just don't see how the Bengals can consider Irons part of their long-term plans at this point.

Let's say that Irons is around the #5 most talented back this year, pre-injury (seems to be CW). Let's say that post-ACL injury, he is around the #7 most talented back this year (I assume that, like Edge, he will be somewhat diminished). And let's say that this was an average draft as far as RB talent (I think it was below average).

That means that by the time Irons is really recovered--two years from now most likely--12 more talented RB's will have entered the NFL. If you're the Bengals GM and you're trying to build for the future and maintain depth for a playoff team, are you really going to make a big bet on Irons?

I'm not saying his NFL career is over, but you have to consider this very very bad news.

Poor guy :)
It doesn't take 2 years to recover from this injury anymore. Jamal Lewis had something like 1300 yards the year after he did it and then 2K the following year. And the younger the player is when the injury occurs the quicker he comes back....But the timeline is still pretty good. Comes back next year. Gets limited touches to see what he can do. The following year it will be an open competition. So two years at least before we see the kid get a shot at the starting roll. That is if neither Rudi or Irons gets injured in that time frame....

It doesn't take 2 years to recover, but it usually takes that long to get back to full speed.

This may sound silly but Skyler Green seems to be very well built and compact like a RB. Think there might be a chance that he could try to fill that COP back? like i said might be silly thought be he looks like a RB to me.

Just a thought.
