Kevin Kolb to miss "several weeks"... (1 Viewer)

Raider Nation

Devil's Advocate
ESPN reports Cardinals quarterback Kevin Kolb will not play Week 7 at Minnesota and is expected to miss several weeks after he had multiple ribs detach from his sternum Sunday against the Bills. He also suffered a sprained sternoclavicular joint in his chest area, according to a team source. John Skelton is expected to start in Kolb's absence.

Expect 3 plus week 10 bye. Dudes in some pain!

He was rushed to the cardiologist yesterday because they feared fluid around the heart. All is well on that though.

I really don't expect them to win any of the next 3 games. Very tough matchups for a struggling team.

Skelton and Kolb have been about the same so far in their careers. Even though I think it's possible Skelton may develop, it shouldn't make a difference this year (which is unfortunate for the Cards).

It seemingly made a huge difference last year. ARI was 1-6 when Skelton took over the reigns at the midway point. They went on to finish the year 8-8 (he went 7-2 as a starter). I'm starting to think it may have been more so a product of the team, as ARI was somehow able to go 3-1 with Kolb under center. I guess what I'm trying to say is, ARI has been good enough since the second half of last year to mask blatant QB deficiencies. It didn't matter who started although I do still give Skelton the edge.

Skelton had very little to do with Arizona's strong finish last year. As I posted in another thread, in the 8 games that Kolb started last season, the Cardinals allowed 24.5 points per game, whereas in the 8 games that Skelton started they allowed only 19 points per game (I'm giving Skelton the week 13 start against SF even though Kolb technically started the game because he only had 1 passing attempt compared to 28 for Skelton).Kolb and Skelton possess vastly different strengths and weaknesses (and Arizona's offense will need to change with Skelton at the helm), but ultimately they offer the level of mediocrity as QBs.
