Just saw he injured his ankle and slammed his helmet. Will post a link...Was really starting to like him as a sleeper too. I guess bump leshoure...

Kevin Smith - RB - LionsKevin Smith exited Saturday night's preseason game with a right ankle injury.Smith slammed his helmet on the sideline in frustration. It's the same ankle Smith injured late last season, and a definite concern entering the biggest week for fantasy football drafts of the preseason. Smith has looked very sharp all August, but his durability concerns don't appear to be going away. Mikel Leshoure was thoroughly ineffective in Saturday night's game, playing 18 snaps. Leshoure gained one yard on five rushing attempts.Aug 25 - 9:20 PM

I know the mjd trade talk is a little over reaction, but I wonder if jax would trade him if Detroit offered an offer they couldn't refuse. Throw two 2nd rounders at jax and you've got yourself a stud rb in that offense.

Problem is Detroit has almost no cap room to redo his contract, so how would moving him to the Lions change anything?

What a shocker, where are all the people saying Kevin Smith was a RB2 at now?
we all knew he was injury prone. his value was through the 1st 3 games where he would have been an rb2, maybe better. are you trying to say that you expected him to get hurt during the preseason? if yes, could you please tell us more? you clearly have a gift

I don't know why people are so unable to grasp this concept.

Now now...I am a smith fan like the rest of you are as well. I kept him in my dynasty league this year for dirt cheap. But I for one was actually pleased that he had gotten this far into the preseason without getting nicked up...which tells me that even though I'm high on his talent level I admit that the dude is very injury prone. At least on the nfl level. Which is all we care about. Come on, smith owners...when you read the news that smith was injured, after your first thought of "damn it!!", you can admit that you thought "this guy just can't stay healthy" or some version of that? I thought it.

Honesty is the breast policy ;)

Kevin Smith was limping pretty badly when he got hurt. It looked pretty bad at the time. However, Smith walked to the locker room without any limp at all (and even jogged according to one of the beat writers). Based on that, I doubt it is anything serious.

If I have to speculate, I'd say he will be 100% for week one. That's just speculation though.

Even before he was injured though, the reports were Leshoure was getting the bulk of the first team work. What type of role would he have for week 1 if he is indeed healthy?

Leshoure has a guarneteed Zero for weeks 1 and 2 due to suspension. If K.smith cannot go I expect some terrible combo of keiland williams/ J.bell and S.Logan to get carries.Or matt stafford to throw every single down

They just wanted to see Leshoure play. I wouldn't read anything into Leshoure playing a lot with the starters...that was their plan. He will probably play quite a bit next week too. He is suspended for the first 2 games. I didn't see all 5 of his carries, but the ones I did see, Leshoure had nowhere to run. It was impossible to get any kind of read on him. If Kevin Smith doesn't play in week 1, Bell and Williams will likely share carries. But I expect Smith to play. He walked to the locker room and was not limping at all. There are two weeks before the first game, so I have to assume Smith will play.

Actually yes I did, I said he would be hurt by the middle of the second regular season game. So no this isn't unexpected at all.

Since when the hell do people use a 6th or 7th round pick on a guy that will be a rb2 for 3 games?

if he played on a high ankle sprain last year, I'm sure he can play 2 weeks after a regular ankle sprain.

and then hopefully 2 minutes after another one.

I do if I'm going for an upside-down QB-WR-WR-WR-TE start. I just need someone to open the season at RB, and take it from there.

Update:

Detroit Lions RB Kevin Smith (ankle) said he will be fine after suffering an ankle injury in the preseason game Saturday, Aug. 25. He said the X-rays on the ankle were negative and expects to recover from the injury quickly.

Anyone who has rolled their ankle knows it is fairly debilitating right away, then it eases off--even the minor ones hurt like heck right off the bat. Then, after a few minutes you are pretty much back to normal.

From the reports, it sounds minor to me. Classic overreaction.

See thread on Stafford, Matthew.

If you can get him cheap, and IF he can stay healthy, he's a good option in PPR leagues. But his price has risen as of late, and he just can't seem to stay healthy. I bought him at $8 in a $200 auction last night, before he was dinged up. I'm not sure that was a good deal or not.

This was not an overreaction because Smith looked terrible limping off and my first thought was a high ankle sprain...not to mention this is the same ankle he injured last year. It's an overreaction only after hearing that it's minor but it wasn't one initially. I also don't think Stafford's injury was anything near this bad. He just hit a helmet with his non-throwing hand and probably would have returned to the game had it been the regular season.

This guy is made out of paper. Mikel LeShoure will take over the starting job by week 2...
I will bet you as much money as you're willing to risk that LeShoure doesn't start Week 2. PM me if you're serious.
:o As much as I'm willing to risk? Do you bluff like this all the time with strangers?
Considering LeShoure will be suspended and not able to play until week 3, I think it's a pretty safe bet to say he won't be starting in week 2.

The Lions should trade Megatron for MJD. They have to understand that RB's are more important than WR's...
i see not much has changed around here with this guy. :hophead: as for Leshoure working with the 1s, it's the first time he's been healthy since they drafted him so they want to get him as much work as possible - especially since he'll be out the first two weeks. It has zero bearing on Smith's touches as long as he's healthy. Smith will be the clear #1 to start the season, and I haven't heard anything about Leshoure to suggest he's ready to take over. The only concern there is he'd be the goal line guy. He looked like crap yesterday though. And Smith has looked fast and ready to pick up where he left off last year.
