Key West Florida (1 Viewer)

We rented a place in the Truman Annex. It was pretty much perfect. Easy access to everything by foot. A quick search of VRBO looks like we were in this condo complex, though the unit we were in was a little nicer/more modern than that specific one. Great, great location imo.
Stayed there back in 07, it was great. 2 blocks from Duval St and a 24 hour Walgreens.

Truman Annex is nice (as mentioned above) but if you like the eclectic side of Key West it wouldn't be my 1st choice. My business partner goes a ton. He rents a house now, but he always swore by The Gardens. I've never stayed there, but he prefers it to Truman Annex.
Stayed at The Gardens twice, loved it. Great location, nice rooms, no kids allowed. Just great.

They have this really nice pool in the middle of the property that's just surrounded by beautiful flowers and tropical vegetation. We modeled our own pool after it (or as best we could living in Maryland).

Right - there are a bunch of boats that go from the west coast of Florida to the keys, none (that I'm aware of) that go from the east cost.

Tourism is gonna explode in the keys soon because of Bloodline imo. I want to spend a couple weeks down there on a boat, just cruising around the mangroves, fishing and getting drunk.

it may be because I'm old, but I really didn't enjoy the keys too much. destin, on the other hand was much more enjoyable.

Come to think of it, my partner stopped staying at The Gardens when his granddaughter got old enough to come down with her parents.

Leaving for KW on Thursday - can't wait. Was just thinking today about the best sandwich I've ever eaten. It was the daily special at Pepe's Cafe on Caroline street...a Blackened Grouper Reuben. Washed down with cold $1 beers on that particular day. :banned:

How old and which key(s) did you stay on? Most of the FL Keys are more laid back and quiet than Key West.

We like the Eden House. Very laid back place with a pool, hot tubs, hammocks, quiet alcoves, daily happy hour (drinks not food, and not a rowdy get drunk off your a$$ happy hour - more a happy mingle). Not for the 20yr old set but perfect for the 35+ set. Quiet hours between 10pm - 10am. Easy walk or bike anywhere on the island. Maybe 5 minute walk to Duval. Website: www.edenhouse.com.

Just got back from KW with wife ....

- Stayed at Cabana Inn (1/2 block off Duval on Applerouth - by the Walgreens/Willie T's). Great location, only $160 on hotwire.

- Delicious Cuban food at El Siboney (its about 3-4 blocks off Duval, Catherine St). I think a few recommended it on here. Alot of locals, not a fancy place, but excellent nice sized portions. Was packed on a Monday night.

- Really liked the Hemingway tour

- Hit all the happy hour/live music places, you get all ages there.

- Sunset was beautiful on Mallory square.

- Blue Heaven for breakfast

- Just turned 50, drinking all day wears you out at my age.

Did the everglades tour on the way back to Miami (airboat in Everglades). Great tour! Saw baby alligators, all kinds of birds, and big gators.
