Wasn't it pretty much assumed by anyone paying attention that Tynes was gone and Medlock taking over? His spot in rankings should have been established soon after being taken in the 5th round of the the draft, not something a team would do unless the job was to be his.

DOn't put the cart before the horse....It was going to be a camp competition.....so it was anybody's guess. The media made people believe that Medlock was the guy already, but CP and HE had said it would be a competition.

Chiefs trade Tynes to Giants

The Kansas City Star

The Chiefs made recent draftee Justin Medlock their de facto starting kicker Tuesday when they traded Lawrence Tynes to the New York Giants for future considerations.

Tynes, who played in Kansas City from 2004 to 2006, ranks fourth in Chiefs history with 68 career field goals and is fifth with 136 PATs.

Don't put the cart before the horse? That's funny. Isn't that exactly what savvy fantasy players do all the time? Predict based on their knowledge, instincts and experience, rather than follow? I knew Tynes was gone when the season ended. There was enough on that subject for anyone paying attention. BS about some camp competition was just coachspeak. Although this thing with Tynes is just a small example, it's symbolic of the difference between those who are good at this game and anticipate the next move, and those who plod along with the herd and wait on everything until news is known to everyone.

The Packers drafted Brett Conway with a 3rd round pick in the 1997 draft, but he didn't even make the team and Ryan Longwell, an undrafted free agent that same year, wound up winning the job. I don't think Medlock was a sure thing to beat out Tynes if they both stayed on the roster. It also hasn't been that uncommon for teams to carry 2 kickers on the roster these days.

The Packers also had to carry two punters on their roster once as well. That's uncommon, but when you draft a punter in the 3rd round after trading up for the pick you can't cut him without a heck of a PR department.

They didn't have to. Sherman chose to because he didn't have the stones to admit he screwed the pooch with a terrible draft pick.

And if a legit contender is brought in to compete with Medlock, I'll take that into account. My point is that Tynes in KC has been a dead man walking for quite awhile, he was going to be moved one way or another, and my rankings for Medlock already assumed Tynes was gone.

After many fruitless years of searching, the New York Football Giants finally find a suitable replacement for LT...

Yet no-one has mentioned what this means for Tynes.

I think it's an upgrade, given how KC is not, well KC anymore. The Giants have a better offense right now and I just bumped Tynes UP in my rankings. :lmao:

Agreed it's a better offense = more opps. for Tynes.Did I completely miss Feeley getting hooked already?

Kevin,

how would you say Tynes is in the wind?

The swamps of jersey have some famously weird winds, not every K could succeed there
