Kids Fashion Sense these Days (1 Viewer)

Football season is coming up as well as several football camps for my son so it was time to buy new cleats. Going on ****'s I searched for cleats on sale.... I see these Addidas that were on sale but they have flowers all over them. I showed it to him basically as a joke thinking there was no way he would want to get them.... but he loved them. I showed him tons of others and he kept coming back to these cleats. So, I got them for him.

Thinking back to being a kid, there is no way in a hundred years I would get cleats that had flowers on them. I asked him why he liked them and he told me that I didn't get what they meant.... but wouldn't explain to me.

Are kids these days THAT much different than when we were kids? (we assuming you are mostly all old 40+ year olds like me)

Different sport but when I was a kid you only wore black soccer cleats. White was reserved for the kid that didnt know how to play. Now there are so many random colors and designs, and sometimes they wear a different color on each foot.

Heck, embrace it. Kid's got style.

I can't even remember having a choice other than black with cleats.

I try to push him towards a neon bright color so then it is easier for me to track him on the field for games and practice but he is super excited about these.

I will say they are super light.

Straight rizz
Last week he did Jr Lifeguard which a three day camp of them learning lifeguard things like water rescue, CPR, etc. The vast majority of the lifeguard there are young ladies. From years past I would say easily upwards of 90%. I know 10 year old me would have been in heaven with all the older young ladies ranging mostly from not bad to hot. I kept teasing him when picking him up.... so did you rizz the lifeguards? :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

You have a confident, stylish kid. Way to go!

(And he doesn't have to wear the hundred-year-old uniforms the US is wearing at the Olympic Opening Ceremony.)

I always like when my favorite athletes wear bright shoes that stand out. Not because I myself would wear them, but for your same reason of making them easier to spot on the field or court.

He is very fashion conscious. Always wants matching shirts/shorts etc while me as a kid just didn't want it to clash.

Yea, I am not sure how I feel about those. Bot sure why it always has to be Ralph Lauren too

Games I usually can keep track of him decently well with his number, name on jersey and knowing generally what position he will be playing.

For practice when they all wear the same color jersey with no numbers etc is almost impossible. Last year I tried to get him to wear some neon orange socks... he refused.

For Father’s Day, I just sent my dad a picture of me with him when I was in high school. I was wearing a floral print shirt and wearing a long necklace. Of course, I wasn’t playing football, but was instead in a rock band. So not apples to apples!

when we were kids our dads thought anything other than high top black cleats for football were gay

our grandparents wore slacks, button down shirts, ties, hats and jackets every day :shrug:and they thought their hippie kids with their jeans and tie-dye shirts were clowns

For varsity flag football this year, my daughter wore a black compression arm sleeve on one arm, and a black compression sleeve on the opposite leg (they wear shorts) for the whole season because her and her coach thought it would look "drippy".

Apparently "drippy" is a good thing. She did look pretty unique out there.

Yea.... a little different.... my buddies in bands wore a bunch of crazy stuff. :lmao:

Well... to be fair, those hippie kids were clowns.

And now these shoes are showing up in my pop-up ads.

Thanks so much.

They look good, nice choice IMO. Kids these days seem either extremely stylish or they literally wear the same sweat pants and hoodie everyday with zero concern for any style.

So what size are you getting?

ETA: ****'s has them on sale for about $50

ETA ETA: :lmao: It bleeped out the sports store.... you know.... Tom blank and Harry.... that one.

I am not hating on them, after all I bought them for him... they do look pretty cool... even better in real life as the gold Addidas stripes really pop off on it. The flowers are really hard to distinguish though.... if someone looks down on them they prob loo more like random spray paint colorings or something.

My younger kids cleats made me super happy because they were super on sale at Going, Going, Gone (I think I ended up getting them for $10, MSRP $100) and they are bright orange with white secondary color so I should be able to easily keep track of him on the field.

My older son is much more picky about what he wants in style where as the younger one is much more go with the flow. I will say that today when I picked them up from their basketball camp, I noticed my youngest had a rival HS shirt on from the HS he was at the camp with. Of course, he had no understanding of that and I laughed.... apparently the coach made comments about it as well and he was "you said wear a black shirt, this is a black shirt." :lmao:

My kids wear hoodies and long pants in 90+ degree weather and complain about being hot.
Yup. I mentioned in the "Teenager Support Thread" here that my son (not quite a teen but close enough) refuses to wear shorts unless it's for football or sleep. And he wears hoodie sweatshirts even though we're in SoCal and it's perpetually 70 degrees.

They could just put asterisks on their store sign. I worked out where you were shopping.

Totally sigma Ohio.
I hear sigma all the time.... no idea what it means
Sigma is like alpha but not an a-hole
hhmmnn.... why does my kid always say "what the sigma?"
It's something they say- doesn't really have a specific meaning in that context. Just an open ended thing to say.
Kind of like a Jed Clampett "Wellll doggy"?

dammit.... now we went all the way to other end of the generation gap.

When i played HS football we had one choice for cleats. Black Converse (high top or low top) that the coach's wife was selling. I think they were like $35 per pair because she was buying them in bulk.

Dangit. I read (ok, skimmed) through this whole thread hoping one of you other old fogies knew the answer to this. Nothing?

My son has had straight up pink cleats and cleats with a heavy pink influence. He's even had a pink soccer ball.

I recently offered to buy him some higher-end shinguards. They're called G-Form shinguards. They had a few different ones, and the pink ones were on sale. He said it's cool Dad, get me the pink ones.

May sound like he prefers all things pink. Not the case at all. Maybe it's for soccer gear? This was pre-Messi to Miami too.
